Title: Australia s34

Unfortunately again not a good NT season schedule, because this is in favor of (flat-)hills-specialists, and Australia is not good at that.
And no expectations this season, because Australia is not good in 4 out of the 7 races, see stars-rating :

season 34 schedule =

1. ⭐ (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/es.png)  Galicia  FFFFH  145 km

2. ⭐⭐⭐ (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/fr.png)  French Pyrenees  FMMMM  205,5 km

RACE 1 : Galicia

29ºC (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/viento1.jpg)

Cangas, a Spanish coastal town in Galicia, close to the norther border of Portugal,
Unfortunately, Australia does not have a golden cyclist that is ranked as flat-hills specialist.

According to my estimated GV ( what can be very wrong in this hard to estimate race ) ;
the best suited 4 hills specialists are selected, "added" with 5 cobblehills-specialists, however, one of them is the nr 2 in my race GV.
What is not a good sign, and says something about the low flat-hills-quality of the Australian hills-specialists.
But in a positive way, it says also something about the amazing cobblehills-quality, that they pop up in the approx. top 9 of this race GV.

Despite Derek Jons is the nr 3, most likely he will be the teamcaptain because he is twice as much experienced as the nr 1 ( and nr 2 ).
But no matter who the teamcaptain will be, a perfect race is needed to score a few points, in this very tricky NT race with 1x wind.

Australia NT selection :

Virgil Seaman ( 29 ) Álvaro_Pino_Boys
Gus Furlong ( 25 ) Elgrand
Derek Jons ( 32 ) ZG
Oliver Lewis ( 26 ) azerite
Pete Dix ( 26 ) KL_Cycling_Team
Walt Furey ( 25 ) Villavante
James Crickton ( 29 ) Álvaro_Pino_Boys
Emerson Brown ( 28 ) IKIBASQUE

A good result to start this season with. Next week a stormy race in the French Pyrenees with summit finish on Pla d'Adet.

Very nice to see that 2-times international Ashley Pinkman is twice in the u23 DT, and ( as expected ) on nr 1 in his speciality.  :)
Somewhere in previous season he already entered the u23 DT as only 21yo of all nations.

Lézat-sur-Lèze, France,
In previous season a great NT race victory of Rick Cann, but that was a pure climb race in Colombia, and this NT race suits him a lot less.
Therefore, now it is up to Ken Holland in his very first time as NT teamcaptain.
I do not expect a top result, also because he does not have a very good xp skill.
And maybe I should not have no expectations at all, due to the storm, what makes this race ( & result ) very unpredictable.

Australia NT selection :

Ken Holland ( 31 ) Shiro_Lions
Rick Cann ( 31 ) RealMurciaCycling
Rick Pierre* ( 31 ) ZG
Allan Sheehan ( 31 ) Stuttgarter
Stu Vaughn ( 34 ) Facha_Bartolo
Paddy Hines ( 33 ) SanJose

Miramas, France,
All just 3 ( ! ) Australians with a golden sprint icon are selected, added with the 2 best 23yo silver sprinters.

For the first time Pete Odom is the sprint-teamcaptain.
He is not high ranked and therefore the expectation is not high in this windy sprint race.
Hopefully he can surprise due to his wind icon* if this tactically difficult race goes very well, then maybe top10 is possible.
Of course, also possible is a tactical disaster race with 0 points, after all, it is a windy NT sprint race and almost always unpredictable.

edit ; Somewhere in the past few days, the 23yo Pursley achieved his golden sprint icon.
But that is based on his excellent hill-sprint, and not a golden icon for flat-sprint. His flat-sprint GV will not be high when he is 24yo.
Despite NT hill-sprint races are very rare, Pursley deserves a NT debut ( as xp-cyclist ) and hopefully he can help a little bit in this race.

Australia NT selection :

Pete Odom* ( 26 ) Cabrasverdes
Virgil Kelly ( 26 ) Rekutxuteam
Horace Stamer ( 34 ) TeamEuroscalt

16    Horace Stamer      34   0: 16"   60      TeamEuroscalt

Excellent results !  8)
Thanks to good tactics based on the 2x wind, and thanks to s4 helper Kelly ; Odom could sprint in the s5 front group of just 8 cyclists.
Also excellent ; the already 34yo( ! ) Stamer scored a few extra points in a free role.

TOP 6 season ranking after 3 races =

1. (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/colombia.jpg)   875
2. (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/italia.jpg)   790
3. (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/australia.jpg)   780  :)

5. (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/belgica.jpg)   540
6. (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/inglaterra.jpg)   540

Unfortunately next week a flat time trial, what should cause a drop in the season ranking.
But after these first 3 races already 780 points, that is much more than what I expected.

Richmond, USA,
The same best 8 TT-specialists are selected as in the past 2 seasons. The expection is low, because ;
In previous s33 = Alfier scored a good 7th place ( 150 points ), but none of the others were lucky enough to score a few points.
And in s32 = 15th Ferdinand and 17th Alfier. This total of just 110 points was even an Australian all-time low record in a NT flat time trial.

Based on Alfier's previous NT results + max. xp + 15th flat-TT-ranking of CFF + excellent stamina ; I expect he will score some points.
All other Australians need a very lucky race to finish top 20. Hopefully one of them can achieve that, but the expectation is zero.

Australia NT selection :

Sammy Alfier ( 31 ) Catalonia_Team
Rick Herd ( 31 ) RHyNeStOnEs
Steve Boit ( 31 ) Bergtoppers
Edward Garza ( 26 ) Catalonia_Team
Dean Butcher ( 26 ) DeporGalegoOscense
Baron Ferdinand ( 31 ) Nibbixwoud

17    Sammy Alfier      31   0: 14"   40      Catalonia_Team
18    Pat Foley      32   0: 14"   30      bestiesnegres

Very surprising results !
Alfier dissapointed with a 17th place, but that was overcompensated by the impressive, lucky results of Foley and Ferdinand. :)

Also surprising ; Hunter was the best Australian in s4 on the 14th place, but dropped in s5 to the 26th place, 0:02" outside the points.
The less experienced but higher ranked other Aussies did not play a role in this race ;
32º Herd and 37º Boit, both on 0:19" what is 4 seconds outside the points. 40º Garza on 0:20" and 59º Butcher on 0:24"

Of course, I'm very satisfied with this unexpected total of 200 points.
In fact, only 3 countries did better ; Italy ( 625 ), Estonia ( 490 ), and Germany ( 300 ).
And Australia could even hold on to the 3rd place in the season ranking.

It is still possible in the next 2 days or so, to scout a very good 19yo, but it is rare.
And now the Giro is almost halfway, I assume that most managers already stopped with recruiting and scouting.
Therefore, for the last time this season the u20 lists.

A high number of 19yo's, for a big part caused by 2 new Australian teams ;

(https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/australia.jpg) 8)RUTEROS ( since 9 sep. )   &  (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/australia.jpg) 8)TheWorstTeamisback ( since 14 sep. )

To both teams ; have fun and good luck !  :)

There also cyclists of another new team in these u20 lists ; PRUEBA_TEAM.
But that is a not active Latvian team with the scout set on searching in Australia.

Anyway, happy to see 2 new Australian teams, because now we have 7 teams Down Under ( incl. the known semi-active teams ).
No remarks about the quality of the 19yo's, because talent rating and how they will be trained, are both of big influence.

VICTORY !
After a great race of Australia, teamcaptain Sifford could finish it off with a splendid sprint-á-deux win versus the famous Zarubin.

1    Shaun Sifford      25   0: 00"   300      Villavante
13    Colin Ronnald      28   0: 24"   90      MortoviaCycling
16    Andrew Morse      30   0: 29"   60      FrançaiseDesJeux
17    Walt Furey      25   0: 29"   40      Villavante

Australia scored the most points in this race, even more as in the cobblehills race of previous season, that was won by Sifford also.
The excellent results in this NT race 5, caused that Australia moved up one place in the season ranking ;

Breskens, the Netherlands,
The start and finish is in the Netherlands, but almost the whole race is in Belgium.
It is up to Pernom to try to get an excellent result in this final race where a WC title is at stake.
What would be a very surprising result, looking at the general strenght of Australia and looking at this not so suited NT calendar.
But so far this season, all NT races went (more than-)very well, and hopefully that is also the case in the crucial final NT race.

All 8 Australians with a golden flat-cobble icon are selected already.
edit ; Today the last one is selected, cobblehills specialist Sifford, who won NT race 5.

NO WAAAAYYY!!! The Vos has done it again! Against all odds! Well done!
You... ahem... outfoxed the opposition!

Unfortunately again not a good NT season schedule, because this is in favor of (flat-)hills-specialists, and Australia is not good at that.
And no expectations this season, because Australia is not good in 4 out of the 7 races, see stars-rating :

Thanks !  :)

And the next sentence is certainly not a reply to you, but just a remark in general ;
I still stand by my preview, I think it was very realistic and not exaggerated.

To me a big surprise that a world championship was possible, I guess that Australia had a very lucky season.
And maybe this had a little bit of influence as well ;
outfoxed the opposition!

I just see that there is a candidate for the NT of Australia ; Tomas ( Teamclaes ).  :)

Maybe there will be other candidates, but maybe very unlikely because almost never Australia had a NT candidate.
Well, who ever it might be, it will be someone who makes his debut as Australian NT manager,
because besides me, the just 4 others who did this honorable funjob as well, did stop( 2x ) or not available( 1x ) or emigrated( 1x ).

And I'm not a candidate after being NT manager 8x in a row( ! ) now.
In total I was even 17x the Australian NT manager ( = 2x bronze, 3x silver and 12x world championship ).

Important remark =
besides that every week a full NT selection is expected, further more no expectations and no pressure Down Under,
just have fun and enjoy to ride with the best Australians ! :)

Good luck to the new Australian NT manager of season 35.  8)

Great job Vos.  We're not going to get a similar result next season, for the simple fact that our entire crop of climbers is heading toward retirement, our remaining TTers have had their final properly competitive season, & our sprinters are weaker.  It's a question of how quickly a suitable replacement guard can come through the ranks.

Btw, for curiously & comparison, are you able to do a current rankings list?

I am trying to keep vos his work up. However this is my first season with the national team ever, so I still need to figure out somethings. I will try to get the lists on the forum before the next NT race.

In any case, congratulations for the courage to pick up this job, and good luck in the season ahead!
