Title: Australia NT: Season 3
Post by: Franky on July 02, 2019, 12:26:00 PM
Hi, we will open the new thread for the Season 3, presenting the selected 9 for the next stage.

We have a well known race, the last WC, a hard, long and pure climbing one in Duitama, Colombia.

Our National Manager has selected the following 9:

Cliff Fagan
Kent Carey

Niles Black
Ali Lindsay
Herbie Steele
Daniel Lucas
Chester Myers
Nate Henderson
Trevor Gatson

Our leader will be any of this 2: Fagan or Carey, Miguel is still thinking about it.

Possible Favourites: Any of the top10 in the last WC in Season 2 would be fav, Carl Martinussen (Norge) or any other Norwegian, Nicola Miorlin (Italy), Mike Janson (UK), Ronald Blaak (Nederland), István Szekér (Magyarország) ...

Great preview Franky !  8)

About my own mentioned climbers Fagan (AUS), Lucas (AUS) and Miorlin (ITA).

Miorlin did great (2nd) in this WC race in previous season, but he was not one of the favorites of 1A.
And the many good climbers of lower divisions will participate too now. But Miorlin should be very good in this race, that is true.

I cannot say that of Fagan and Lucas. If Fagan is one of the best Australians for this NT race, it does not look good for Australia at all because the difference in GV points between Miorlin and Fagan is huge.

Aaron Palmer
Stephen Donaldson

Finaly Fagan will be our leader for this stage. We have 3 riders with very close value for this stage, and is dificult to find out who will be the best leader but I decide to give the responsability to Fagan.
It´s a dificult stage for Australia, but we will try to achive some points

Too much for our riders. I knew that other leaders were 4 poits more valued in this stage than our leader so even if I had the hope of getting some points it was imposible to make the miracle.  :( :(

I'm wondering about the TT (flat) rankings.  Is it taking stamina as the second/third most important stat, with technique being of little importance?

I'm just the one copy/pasting and preparing the data...Miguel is the one in charge of deciding the %, so...Miguel, any comment?

I think your formula has deleted technique.  I just did a quick formula on my cyclists with only TT, flat, stamina, experience, and got:
Levin 1st (you 1st)
Trump -0.84 (you -1.07)
Mitchum -0.96 (you -1.53)
Acree -1.00 (you -1.56)
White -4.10 (you -4.33)
Pinkley -5.29 (you -5.47)
Bookout -5.95 (you -6.36)
Miller -6.98
Jones -7.68

Putting technique into the formula at 17% gives me
Trump 1st (you -1.07)
Levin -1.14 (you 1st)
Acree -4.35 (you -1.56)
Miller -5.80 (not in 20)
Mitchum -6.32 (you -1.53)
White -6.55 (you -4.33)
Brookout -7.75 (you -6.36)
Jones -8.15
Pinkley -8.64 (you -5.47)

TRUE. I just checked, and it was missing the % for technique in the calculations. The excel file that Miguel is using is one prepared by me. I already fixed it, tomorrow morning I will try to update the images.

The first 5 with right now should be:

1   Isaac Trump   21   0
2   Richard Levin   21   1,03
3   Freddy Butcher   21   2,19
4   Hank Kewell   21   4,21
5   Clyde Gill   21   4,30

By the way, next stage!!

For the 3rd stage, we are arriving to Spain, to the city of Almaden, in the province of Ciudad Real, in Castilla La Mancha, and finishing in another manchegan city, Talavera de la Reina. Here we have a pure sprint stage, with only a bit of wind and bit of hot, a perfect weather for an international race like this!!

Owen Acree & Ben Mitchum have 4 & 5 talent.  Of Frenkie's cyclists, I'd suspect Wilt Gilbee has good talent, and possibly Jim Slipper.  Charlie Pierre doesn't appear to be.  No idea about Les Rooney.

8    Derek Nelson      21   0: 00"   140      Yvo_Meppelink_ProCycling

According to me a very impressive 8th place !  :)
I think Nelson finished above many other sprinters who are way better. Well done, miguel.  8)

Good luck in the time trial of this evening.
Hopefully again a lot of points because of the TT specialists of Aurora Australis.
In previous season Australia scored 510 points in the flat time trial of 43km.
9km more as the TT of this evening. And of course training, talent rating and luck can cause big differences compared to last season.

Franky : Great previews ! Also awesome to see the lists you made !  8) 8)

For my TTers, this is a great result given that they're yet to commence their flat training (next season).  In future seasons, they have the potential of winning, and (with my 20 year olds) have the potential of having 9 Aussies in the top 20.

For course I do have to wonder about the Spanish team's selections, because that page defaulted to season 2, and I noticed that ChessPower's Maximino Laguna (finished 3rd last season) wasn't even selected this season, nor was Higinio Espin (finished 10th ls), also from ChessPower.  I'm seeing a theme here.

It would have surprised me a lot when Australia scored points in this cobble hills race.
I mentioned at the start of this season that Australia was just good in 2 out of the 7 races.
And you surprised me already in the sprint stage, Miguel, way more points as I expected.
It cannot be a party all the time.  ;)  And as Franky already mentioned, Australia is still the leader despite zero points, so that is fun.  :)

I am curious about the formula you used for this race, and how it compares to the formula you used for the start-of-season rankings.  Kirk Trump was only 6th in the rankings, but was picked as leader for this race.  By contrast, Nate Douglas was 2nd in the rankings but was not even selected for the race.  Changes in the relative strength of riders over the course of the season because of training differences will happen, of course, but I was surprised at the size of the apparent changes.
Title: Re: Australia NT: Season 3
Post by: miguel11gh on August 01, 2019, 01:24:36 PM
Sorry, the formula was diferent I gave more important to hills. And because of the tactic I wanted to use, and the "sun icone" I choose Trump.
I notice now that Douglas was between the 9 better riders, I don´t know why I don´t see him. That was a mistake.

If you see something wrong next time, can you write me to the game and I will check it as soon as posible.

Sorry.

I think I could take some points. And effort more in S3 and I think we had some points.

Ok, you might be right, you are the NT manager, so you are the expert.
My information is based on previous season.
The high training speed in CFF3 together with the talent rating can cause big differences compared to previous season.

I don´t know the rest riders level, but with our rider in the front group in S3 I had the feeling that we can take some points. Not perhaps for his level, but for the good tactic.
I´m sure that was for few, that he wasn´t in front group.

STAGE 6!!

We are getting closer to the end of the season, and we are still leaders with 2 stages to the end. And this time we have a sprint race, in Spain, starting in Ejea de los Caballeros, a small town of Aragon.

It was more or less known that Hungary was going to make a very good race...now, everything is very close, but we are not very strong in cob, so...I think that our priority is to maintain the 3rd position?

Well Norway will score well, and we're not going to get 445 points, so 3rd is the best we can hope for (btw, we can't be that bad considering that my Jonny Glass isn't in the first 8 selected).  We'll beat the Poms again regardless, so they can cry into their warm beer and teacake.

Btw: Who's intending to run for the NT next season?  I was intending to nominate for season 5.

Again it must be good tactics in the sprint stage because again a good result, Miguel.  8)
The current 3rd place in the ranking by countries is much better as I expected at the start of this season.
It will be surprising to me if Australia is still 3rd after the cobblestone NT race.

But is already certain Australia did awesome this season and also certain of top7 it seems to me.
A reminder ; Australia is a little CFF country who is on number 13 in the ranking of riders per country. Spain has 10 times more riders.
And Australia has just 2 riders in the u23 dream team ; nr 10 on hills and nr 4 on TT (but he is a climb TT rider, so far no climb TT NT race).

About NT manager of next season ; I hope there will be candidates.
If nobody wants to do this joyful job next season ; no problem, the Fox will bring salvation.  ;)

Miguel is there as a candidate again... for me is OK if he repeats as NT. For season 5 we can decide if someone else can take the responsibility. Would be great to rotate a bit.

Sorry.
No problem and certainly no need to apologize.  You are the manager and have been doing an excellent job!  I was just curious.  Douglas may not have appeared in your initial search if you had a high threshold for hills.  His hills statistic would probably have been lower than 80 at the time you did the search.

Yes was good tactic, but Hungary this time don´t made mistakes. In the finale stage, I think we can make some points, but each stage in NT is very dificult and only a effort less or more is the diferent betwin the success or the failure.

(am on holiday without my excelsheet and have a lot of timetrial riders who are probably not good enough)

Good result. I hoped more points with the freeroll riders but they were cut in S1. If not, perhaps we had chance to win the countries ranking. But Is a good season in general. The stage 5 was my worst stage, but I´m happy with the rest, even thinking that I could do better.

a good season in general.
For sure it is, because the race scedule was not favorable and Australia has just 1 rider in the u23 dream team, the nr10 on hills.
Also there is 1 other Australian in the u23 dream team, but that is climb-TT-specialist and so far no climb-TT in both NT seasons.
Maybe next season. I hope so, because he is a SPORTLIFE-rider.  :)

So far you are still the only candidate, Miguel. I assume you will be the Australian NT manager again next season. My vote goes to you.

Providing we have a long TT race, we're always going to be in the hunt.
And 3rd is great, because the still beat the Poms.  Now 2 to 0, just like we'll be in the Ashes series after this weekend.

It seems that the calendar looks good this season ?
You're the NT manager, so you can estimate that better. I assume the 2 TT races are in favor of Australia.  8)
I can help you with everything, as you know. My speciality in helping you is pictures of pretty Australian ladies.^^

You do your job well  ;D

Thanks for your vote. Yes, the 2 TT are in favor of us, and the mountain stage is not all mountain and that´s good for us too.

The first stage will be dificult because I don´t have references of those kind of stages with NT. The tactic I had chose dont know if will be enought good.

Spain will be the favo to the final win, because of the TT stages too, but I will try to do as good as posible

My two top TTers will thrash the Spaniards in the flat TT, don't worry about that.  Spain should win overall simply because they got like 500 cyclists for every race, and don't have a saboteur as NT coach this season.

As long as we beat the Poms, I'll be happy.
