RACE 6 : FLAT-HILLS in SWITZERLAND

34ºC

Olten, Switzerland,
It will be a tactical difficult race with the 2x wind. Hopefully the helpers will do great and keep teamcaptain Paddy Friend in the front.
Because a good amount of points is needed compared to the remaining 3 rival countries ( POR, ITA, SUI ),
so the current good cap will be about the same and Australia might affort to have a not so good final race 7.
But this race 6 is unpredictable, and a good chance this will be the crucial, decisive race in the world championship battle.

Already 6 cyclists are selected, and the other 3 will be selected later.
There is no space for young xp cyclists in this race 6, in contrast to the final race 7, because of the just 5 golden flat-cobble Aussies.

Australia NT selection :

Paddy Friend ( 32 ) KunTeam
Derek Jons ( 27 ) RHyNeStOnEs
Callum Carpenter ( 29 ) TeaMetal
Virgil Seaman ( 24 ) Álvaro_Pino_Boys
Rob Mitchell ( 31 ) Speedbird
James Bush ( 33 ) Kelme4ever
Chris Chester ( 32 ) Daybe_Team    ( debut )
Natham Middleton ( 27 ) Hero_cycling
Alex Ablett* ( 28 ) Aspigarri

This race was another example that in NT races anything can happen, because this was at least once a NT race before,
and back then a very high pace race without wind, and with a hard start and breaks in every section.
Also the ( back then not so good- ) Australian teamcaptain was a "victim" and dropped in s3 despite using energy.
Now there was 2x wind, and to my surprise it was a very calm race that went like this : 136 ( ! ) - 107 - 97 - 79 - 3.

It is clear that I used too many EP in the flat sections with the Australian team, including teamcaptain.
But I guess that most NT managers used way too many EP in this "windy" race.
Result =
12º  Paddy Friend ( KunTeam )  0:07"
A bit dissapointing despite he had many helpers in the s4 front group, but every teamcaptain had help in s4.
And none of the 3x free roles could score a few extra points.

But the good news is that Australia ( 100 points ) did better as former nr 2 Portugal ( 80 points ).
And the other 2 rival countries came just a little closer ; Italy ( 160 points ) and Switzerland ( 180 points ).
The gap towards the former nr 2 was 525, and now towards new nr 2 Italy it is 505.
So, looking at the season ranking, this race went well for Australia because the gap is about the same.  :)
What ( almost certainly, I guess for 95% or more ) means that Australia will be again the world champion.  8)

TOP 5 season ranking with just 1 more race to go :

1.    1.865   8)
2.    1.360
3.    1.320
4.    1.290
5.       890

Next week a hot flat cobble race in the north of France.

NT race 7 results ;
5º  Bob Pernom ( 25, TeamEuroscalt )  0:06"
19º  Gilbert Ray ( 26, Thorboassonarvesen )  0:38"
A pretty decent result, thanks to s4 helpers Gilbert Ray and Markus Harris.
But as expected, this total of 200 race points was not even needed due to the big gap towards the rival nations, and therefore ;  :)

For the 12th time in a row ;

Australia = world champion !

A big thanks to all managers with Australian top cyclists, who made this 16th ( ! ) Australian world championship possible !  8)

Thanks  :)

About next season ; everyone can take over, please do, because I will not be a NT candidate.
But if there are no candidates for next season, it is no problem to me to be again the Australian NT manager.
