« on: July 24, 2020, 10:13:48 AM »

A new season starts !  8)

Already the Australian lists, and the youth lists I will make this weekend or on Monday.
Later today the season preview and the preview of NT race 1, a hills race in Italy.
The just 5 Australian golden hills specialists are already selected. They are the numbers 32, 38, 58, 86 and 88 in the golden hills ranking.

Australia u24 ( 120 cyclists in total )

The u23, u22 and u21 lists this weekend or on Monday, and hopefully next week already enough 19yo's to make the u20 list.

u23 Dream Team =
Maybe for the first time no Australian TT specialists in it, and with just 3 Australian 22yo's it is not a good Australian generation.
But there are 4 Australian talents in the u23 DT, because the 21yo Jasper Blair is already in it. 8)
hills :
nr 2  Gerard Shields ( 22 ) Quickstepbronx
nr 4  Zack Walkins ( 22 ) Quickstepbronx
sprint :
nr 5  Richard Davidson ( 22 ) Luka_Warriors
nr 7  Jasper Blair ( 21 ) Manicomicos_Cycling_Team

If you're not training up 19 year olds this season, I'm buying 19 yo potential TT replacements for Levin, Trump, & co, so I'm on the hunt to buy, particularly given that TTers have to be essentially perfect from the start because there's no such thing as domestiques.

u23 Dream Team
Maybe for the first time no Australian TT specialists in it
Hoping to fix that for seasons 14 & 15, or even season 13 if I get somebody as great as Franky's sprinter (although I don't think it'll work with TTers).

u23 Dream Team
... and with just 3 Australian 22yo's it is not a good Australian generation.
Maybe not, but having the best u22s is more important than mere top 10s, and there's two top hillers (who appear to be potentially better than the entire CFF hiller class the season prior) , plus Blair.  If we could do that every season we'd get a strong NT team.

Re current 23 year old TTers
Last season Workman deficit to Iverson -1.49
This season -0.52

Looking forward to seeing Workman taking top billing of his generation sometime this season.  And then next season, TT training.

RACE 1 : ITALIAN HILLS

19ºC

Offida, region Marche, central Italy,
There was no real hills race in previous season 10. In season 9 there was a Fleche Wallone hills race, but zero points for Australia.
In season 8 the same FW race and just 30 points. In season 7 there was a short pure hills race and 70 points were scored.
We have to go back to season 6 to see a good result of Australia in the hills ; 7th and 150 points in a pure hills race of 254km.
But I assume the situation changed since season 6 and the results of recent seasons are more applicable.
Together with the fact that the Australian hills specialists are not high ranked ( nrs 32, 38, 58, 86 and 88 ) ; the expectations are low.

But Australia is motivated and ready for the new season, so I'm optimistic that a few points will be scored.
The 6 best hills specialists are selected, together with 3 young hills talents as semi-xp-cyclists.

Australia NT selection :

Royce Henderson ( 29 ) Handest
John Jones ( 29 ) CC_Porco_Jones
Vinnie Coleman ( 28 ) galegospolabici
Austin Burton ( 29 ) TeamRHB
Tyler Walker ( 29 )NervionBike
Stu Beal ( 29 ) $Tourmalet
Tim Morton ( 23 ) Inglourious_Bastards
Gerard Shields ( 22 ) Quickstepbronx
Zack Walkins ( 22 ) Quickstepbronx

I will not be training them this season indeed, so I will most likely be pulling TTs, especially for you :).

What skills' ranges are you looking for being 'perfect'?

AUSTRALIA NT :  SEASON 11 PREVIEW

race 1   Offida ; hills
See preview NT race 1.

race 2   Bola del Mundo ; mountains
Normally no points because Australia does not even have a golden pure climber.

race 3   Lyndoch ; hill-sprint
To my knowledge for the 1st time a hill-sprint as NT race, and probably also the 1st time a NT race is in Australia, but I'm not sure of this.
The Australian hill-sprinters are not high placed in the golden sprint ranking ; nrs 57, 59 and 78. So the expectations are not high.
But maybe more chance to score some points in this hill-sprint race than in a flat-sprint race, ánd Australia has home advantage. :)

race 4 Bern ; time trial
Thanks to Aurora Australis every season many points in the TT and in previous season even a new CFF record of points in one race.
s5= 815, s6= 725, s7= 955 + 1.045, s8= 835, s9= 920 and s10= 1.095.  8)

race 5   Geraardsbergen ; cobblehills
Normally no points, but in previous season a very surprising 10th place, however, that was a cobblehills race with 3 flat sections.
And before season 10 Australia could not score cobblehills points for a period of 5 seasons. The Australians are bad in cobblehills.

race 6   Vogelwaarde ; flat-cobble
A short race of 129km with 3 flat sections, the first time such a flat-cobble race is on the NT calendar.
Australia has a very good teamcaptain for the flat-cobblestones, Angus Friend, so I assume he is very suited for this kind of race too.
The expectations are high, despite he had a surprising, unexplicable bad day in the cobble race of previous season.
He has to do much better now, because Angus Friend should be one of the favorites to become the individual world champion of season 11.

race 7   Frauenfeld ; cobblestones
231 km cobblestones and no flat sections. Also the first time a pure cobblestones race is on the NT calendar.
Again Angus Friend will be the teamcaptain, and hopefully enough points in races 6 and 7 to be the new individual world champion.

- - - - - - - - - -

season goals :

# individual world championship
It is obvious a flat-cobble specialist will win the individual ranking and Australia has a very good contender with Angus Friend.
But with 2 new cobble NT races, enough good rivals, and the fact he had a unexplicable bad day in previous season ;
it is uncertain if he can win it, but he is for sure going to try.
Only once an Australian was the individual world champion, that was Richard Levin in (time trial) season 7.
He could have won in previous season too, 7 cyclists were split numbers 1, but CFF declared Pierre (BEL) as individual world champion.

# podiumplace for Australia
A world championship seems to me not achievable, especially when Belgium will do great again on the cobblestones like previous season.
Most likely there are more real contenders for the world championship in this different NT calendar ;
such as Spain, the Netherlands, maybe Ukraine and maybe more countries.
And with 4 not suited NT races for Australia, it might be a fierce battle to achieve the season goal of a podiumplace.

# race victory
Levin (4x TT), Trump (1x TT) and Friend (2x cobble) proved in the past they can win NT races. Hopefully also this season a race victory.
