"Great job" is doubtfull.
Although, my "read" of this race was good, tactics were also based on that ; a hard start and hard finish.
And even a harder start would mean a 5 EP start for Colin Mount,
and that in a s1 upmountain section with flat in it, and in a pure mountain race that finishes in a s5 brutal E"climb ;
then a full power start is asking for a bad result, in my opinion.
And true, both 24yo's golden pure climbers Colin and R.Henderson (almost exactly the same GV) are good assets to Australia.
And an improvement compared to Garza (silver on pure climb) who was the Australian mountain teamcaptain in all previous seasons.
But both were dissapointing in this NT race.
However, perhaps this was not a good testcase, because of maybe bad luck, but almost sure because of the weather influences (incl. wind).
For example the Australian hillsclimb helper with 2 active weather icons did much better than expected,
despite the 4 ( ! ) full GV points less for this race, and he was even in the front group of s1.
But what is a better indication than this NT race, that is the golden ranking :
nr 184 = Mount, and nr 195 = R.Henderson.
To me that is too low, although we are Down Under of course happy that we have finally golden pure climbers after 10 seasons.
I suspect the 22yo Furey will be the Australian future teamcaptain in pure mountain races.
He is not in the u23 DT, no top climber also, but I estimate he will be gold in pure climb and ranked higher than Mount and R.Henderson.
Anyway, the future in pure mountain races looks brighter than the past with these 3 young golden pure climbers.
But still it is better for Australia if there is some flat and/or hills in a mountain NT race.
About Jasper "The Bullit" Blair
;
I gave him a free role to avoid that he finished as last in the NT climb race.
It was very exciting in the first 4 sections, and in s4 he was in the last group of 15 cyclists on 2:45"
With a "famous tactical fox trick" Jasper saved a little bit of energy for the final climb to secure he did not finish as last.
I'm 100% sure he used 12 EP and not too many energy
And this is his NT race result ; last place and beat by the only three 19yo's in this race.
