This season we will get rid of (almost) all of our old riders and we will start a new generation (cobble) hillers. At the moment we have 7 interesting prospects and we will try to get a few results with the oldies.

The probably last cup ride for a while was against Ophiuko CT and our Amable Puerto could not beat Kert Tammik.

Tour Down Under:
2nd stage: 3. Diederik de Maar
5th stage: 6. Amable Puerto

Omloop het Nieuwsblad: 9. Giorgi Jabbarov
Strade Bianchi: 9. Giorgi Jabbarov

Paris - Nice:
1st stage: 29. Erland Westby
2nd stage: 13. Erland Westby, 28. Bert Kerkhof
4th stage to Vierzon: 26. Erland Westby

Our youngest oldie Erland finished 3rd in the GC.

Division standings in 2b after the first week:

1º      AmericanChow   4121   1   1   3
2º      TeaMetal   2798   1   0   1

No, we won't be competing for promotion, but we might stay in the division for a season...

Absolute no chance to stay in, place 33 is not that horrible, but the difference with Shiro Lions was almost 1300 points. Congratulations to Flying Wheels with their win, congratulations to Sportlife with their well deserved third place and congratulations to every team that stayed in. We will miss them for some seasons.

Best riders:

10º      Phillip Spang   28   2165   Codex   3   1   0

No rider in the top 50, mainly because Yvo van Straalen had a very bad season. Our best riders:

Yvo VanStraalen   32   929         234
Diederik De Maar   31   444         212
Amable Puerto   33   358         163
Erland Westby   29   244         010
Arnolds Treimanis   31   112         001
Phillip Køppen   34   75         035
Gary Fredickson   32   60         011
Giorgi Jabbarov   31   55         247
Nicklas Tornvig   34   38         135
Bert Kerkhof   32   30         000
Jesper Håkonsson   31   17         002

Peter Boit, Hallvard Thorkildsen, Toivo Sulg and Eulogio Trillo scored points as well, but I could not retrieve those anymore.

We bought Jesper Håkonsson in the first three weeks of the season to replace the aging Phillip Køppen and Nicklas Tornvig, but we did not continue that strategy as it was clear we were going to relegate. It brought us two icons though:

Well, we will cut our losses and start with a new generation of riders. It is a season earlier than expected.

Hartstikke bedankt voor alle drie de overzichten. Leuk om te zien dat Michel Jansen in zijn soort de beste 19-jarige Nederlander is. Hopelijk wordt hij goed getraind.

Season 21 then, CFF3 is coming of age...

Tour Down Under:
4th stage: 24. Amable Puerto
5th stage: 5. Amable Puerto

Omloop het Nieuwsblad: 20. Phillip Køppen

Paris-Nice:
4th stage: 8. Amable Puerto

No special preparation for Arnolds Treimanis, so no top 20 in the GC.

Tirreno Adriatico:
1st stage to Terminillo: 19. Arnolds Treimanis

Division standings after the first week:

1º      Flyvende_hjul   1826   0   0   3
2º      SPORTLIFE   1701   0   0   1
3º      Codex   1678   1   0   0
4º      Mlb   1394   0   1   0
5º      galegospolabici   1383   0   4   0
6º      FaltososDeChigre   1353   0   0   0
7º      LottoStelvio   1318   4   2   0
8º      MortoviaCycling   1317   0   0   1
9º      QuintoYtapa   1291   1   0   0
10º      Fiestina   1246   0   0   1

37º      Skrimshaw   267   0   0   0
38º      Combuijs   266   0   0   0
39º      WFCyclingTeam   220   0   0   0

A bad start of the season due to some bad planning of training camps, but there is enough time to recover. A surprise start by Sportlife, who apparently did forget he can't score in hill cobble races. Also a brilliant start by Yvo Meppelink Pro Cycling with 5 wins already this season, all by Jacco van Swieten, the next big thing in sprinting.

We managed to sell talent Michel Jansen to World Tour team Wizards. We also started the season by training stamina.

Dauphiné Liberé:
4th stage:29. Arnolds Treimanis

In the GC Arnolds, eh..., well, ...eh, he did finish in the end...

Tour de Suisse:
1st stage: 10. Yvo van Straalen
2nd stage: 17. Yvo van Straalen
3rd stage: 16. Peter Boit
4th stage: 9. Eulogio Trillo
5th stage: 10. Yvo van Straalen

In the GC Yvo finished 5th and Erland Westby as a helper 17th. Last result did really surprise us...

Tour de France:
1st stage: 4. Yvo van Straalen
2nd stage: 6. Diederik de Maar
3rd stage: 12. Yvo van Straalen
4th stage: 23. Eulogio Trillo
5th stage: 8. Yvo van Straalen
7th stage: 6. Diederik de Maar
8th stage: 29. Amable Puerto
10th stage: 14. Yvo van Straalen

In the GC we had Yvo just missing out on the podium on 4th place. Or to be fair, he missed out on 1:20 from third place Ken Hansen (Astadena) and more than two minutes on winner Alexey Ryazanov (Real Murcia Cycling).

Clasica San Sebastian: 28. Bert Kerkhof

Combuijs Honey Ale Tour:
2nd stage: 2. Peter Boit
3rd stage: 6. Giorgi Jabbarov
4th stage: 12. Diederik de Maar
5th stage: 11. Toivo Sulg

A podium place and a 13th place in the GC for Giorgi, what else could we wish for in our own tour?

Vuelta:
3rd stage: 9. Hallvard Thorkildsen
4th stage: 12. Hallvard Thorkildsen
5th stage: 13. Yvo van Straalen, 21. Arnolds Treimanis
6th stage: 7. Yvo van Straalen, 16. Gary Fredickson
7th stage: 22. Yvo van Straalen
8th stage: 24. Hallvard Thorkildsen
10th stage: 28. Yvo van Straalen

In the GC Yvo finished 9th on more than 4 minutes from winner Ken Hansen (Astadena). Arnolds finished 19th.

In this Vuelta we noticed that having a rider enjoying the fruits of a training camp, you can't send him on another training camp for the next season. So we will not have a good start in next season. A bit odd this...

World Championship Road Race: 16. Hallvard Thorkildsen

Which leads to these final division standings:

All in all a very good season, in face it might be the last good season for a while for our team, given its average age. Anyway, finishing just in front of Aurora Australis was satisfying, finishing far in front of Zatarra was very satisfying and ... eh ... well ... eh ... Sportlife, they were 5 places better...

Finishing 0:01" behind VanStraalen ( Combuijs ) is of course less funny.  :'(

Always good to know somebody knows his place in the world...  ;D

A huge lead by Flying Wheels. We lost contact with Sportlife and Aurora Australis is closing in, so we are in trouble again, although still 1000 points away from relegation.

Ronde van Vlaanderen: 27. Phillip Køppen

Itzulia:
1st stage: 27. Hidde Daelman
4th stage: 30. Amable Puerto
5th stage: 27. Phillip Køppen

In the GC Hidde Daelman finished 6th, probably the best result in his career.

Paris-Roubaix: 6. Peter Boit
A good result by Peter, very likely because all cobble specialists are preparing for the World Championship.

Combuijs Honey Ale Race: 24. Amable Puerto
The only hill classic we score points in. Amable Puerto is getting a little bit old...

Tour de Romandie:
1st stage: 16. Diederik de Maar
2nd stage: 3. Alcides Ponte
3rd stage: 2. Alcides Ponte, 13. Gary Fredickson
5th stage around Fribourg: 22. Peter Boit

In the GC Alcides Ponte finished 6th to cap off a very lucrative Tour with two podium places. Gary Fredickson as helper finished 21st.

And do we stay out of the relegation claws of Aurora Australis?:

1º      Flyvende_hjul   7425   3   3   2
2º      Agua_Verde   6423   3   3   2
3º      BlackHole   5769   2   3   1
4º      ChampsElysees   4633   2   1   5
5º      Mlb   4335   1   1   2
6º      Codex   4305   4   0   2
7º      LottoStelvio   4144   7   1   2
8º      RealMurciaCycling   3535   0   1   2
9º      FaltososDeChigre   3520   0   4   1
10º      TeamEuroscalt   3446   3   3   1

19º      SPORTLIFE   2502   0   3   0
20º      Combuijs   2410   0   1   1
21º      Turrones   2325   0   0   0
22º      Zatarra   2323   1   1   0
23º      ChronoTony   2147   1   0   1

34º      Catalonia_Team   1193   0   0   0
35º      Aurora_Australis   1181   1   0   2
36º      RHyNeStOnEs   1113   0   0   1

Sure we do! We are behind the comfortable back of Sportlife and even in front of Zatarra. May the good times continue.

Meanwhile we have gotten a bad reputation as staff handler:

No surprise there, we are never able to get a fully qualified team director, while the requirements are not too hard as you can see:

"Combuijs Honey Ale is hiring! This renowned Dutch World Tour Team is looking for a team director with lots of experience in grand tours, small tours and one day classics. He or she should be able to keep motivation and team spirits high even when results are catastrophic, while medical staff is not able to recover riders, the mechanical team does not improve the equipment and the marketing team is not able to find additional sponsors. Knowing how to deal with empty coffers and a non-starting team bus is a bonus. Payment is in crates of Combuijs Honey Ale."

I am not against traditions, but I hate the tradition to lose in the second CFF Cup round. Two flat time trials were too much, the one against Quickstepbronx was okay, no opponent showed up, but the one against Fiestina was 6 seconds too much.

Tour Down Under:
1st stage: 26. Amable Puerto

Omloop het Nieuwsblad: 11. Eulogio Trillo

Paris - Nice:
In the GC Yvo van Straalen finished 17th, but there were no (0, zero, niente) top 20 places...

Tirreno Adriatico:
1st stage: 17. Peter Boit
2nd stage: 20. Alcides Ponte
3rd stage: 12. Alcides Ponte
4th stage: 14. Toivo Sulg

In the GC Alcides Ponte finished 9th, 1:30 behind Flying Wheel Serafim Gois.

E3 Harelbeke: 10. Phillip Køppen

Volta Catalunya:
1st stage: 16. Diederik de Maar
2nd stage: 27. Yvo van Straalen
4th stage: 20. Toivo Sulg
5th stage: 14. Yvo van Straalen

In the GC Yvo finished 9th on 1:47 from winner Xavér Kövér (HTC Hungria)

Gent - Wevelgem: 20. Phillip Køppen
Dwars door Vlaanderen: 12. Phillip Køppen

So after two weeks of cycling these are the division standings:

1º      Flyvende_hjul   5066   2   3   2
2º      Agua_Verde   3624   2   2   0
3º      Mlb   3320   1   1   1
4º      Codex   2927   2   0   0
5º      BlackHole   2879   0   2   1
6º      ChampsElysees   2782   1   1   4
7º      FaltososDeChigre   2442   0   2   0
8º      OphiukoCT   2263   0   0   0
9º      Astanadena   2119   1   1   1
10º      Wizards   1975   0   0   0
11º      MortoviaCycling   1925   2   1   1
12º      Zatarra   1875   1   1   0
13º      galegospolabici   1859   0   0   2

19º      TeamEuroscalt   1496   3   0   0
20º      SPORTLIFE   1493   0   3   0
21º      Caracoles   1487   1   2   1

23º      Álvaro_Pino_Boys   1242   0   0   0
24º      Combuijs   1214   0   0   0
25º      °Peachy°Melocotons   1190   0   0   2

So outside the relegation zone, but only just.

Well, then it remained silent for the rest of season 19 due to holidays and other activities. But I made a compilation of the results.

We were out in the second round of the cup against Pro Continental Tour team Azerite in a flat race with a mountain finish. Sergey Barak was faster than Alcides Ponte alas.

Aparte renner.
