Australian National Team Season 8
The current Team and Individual World Champions!

I'm not the manager that you deserve, but I'm the one that you got! After the great great last season, is going to be very hard to repeat that. Our goal should be realistic and we should try to achieve the 3er-4th position, and that should be a great achievement, at the end, we are the 13th nation in number of cyclists and the 14th in number of teams, but we are very committed with our country!

And now, the rankings!

Thanks for the lists, Franky, great job !  8)

Just one remark about the Hills Climb Cob category ;
Cliff Fagan ( SPORTLIFE ) has the CFF record of the upcoming stage 8 Vuelta, C(h)MDMC(h) 280km.
He is not in that list, but for example Trautemberg (also in my team) is 6th in that list and for sure Fagan is much better in hills-climb-cob.
Just an unimportant detail and there is not such a NT race this season, so no problem at all, but maybe good for you to know.

About the NT calendar of this season ; the 2 mountain NT races are not favorable at all for Australia.
But in the other 5 NT races Australia can score enough points. Especially in the very point rich flat TT race 4 but also in flat cobble race 7.
Your season goal of 3rd or 4th seems to me realistic, so I assume it will be a battle for a podiumplace this season.
Also looking at the great historic results of Australia this should be possible.
Always nice to compete for a podiumplace (despite the 2 mountain races), that makes the NT job even more fun. :)
But in advance for sure a possibility that 3 other countries could be better in this NT calendar.
At least there is one very positive aspect of this NT calendar = again Australia has a great NT manager !  8)

Good luck and have fun this NT season, Franky !

haha, honestly that ranking was made long time ago, and I never checked if its working fine, and I never changed the %...probably it can be updated and reviewed, but is the less important one.

About the great manager...I'm not really sure...I'm still in 2nd division and I haven't been able to  promote to 1st  ;D

Well, my opinion is that you are a great NT manager. Maybe others (and you) have a different opinion.
If you have little doubts about tactics, you can always pm me.
Most likely often I will have the same little doubts, but two know more than one, and good to get tactical feed back.
Whatever you do, do not finish as 7th this NT season, it seems  that is your speciality in the 2nd division.  :))  :P  ;)

I am a bit sceptic about that flat mountain rating, since my Ross Shields is higher in the gold ranking than all of your riders, who are there for mountain-hills. I'm absolutely sure he has to be ranked higher, since he could challenge favourites in 1st div in most flat mountain stages.

I don't know the percentages used in these lists that Franky posted.
But in the Australian evaluator that I use, the flat mountain percentages are completely different than what CFF uses for the flat climb icon.
The reason is that flat mountain in my Australian evaluator is calculated/estimated as a FFMDM, or FFFMM race, both with downhill in it.
Or also a good example, this NT race 6 MMFFM, also downhill in it.
In the flatmountain GV of CFF there is no downhill in it, that is a pure flat-mountain race FFFFM without downhill.

I assume the percentages in these posted lists look more like the flat mountain percentages I use in my different Australian evaluator.

The Volta Catalunya of this season might be a good example to show the GV difference :
stage 2 = CFF percentages for flatmountain.
stage 4 = Australian percentages for flatmountain.

Exactly, I dont use the % that CFF uses for the badges, I use ones like flat flat mountain down mountain... I know Ross perfectly, he has being on my radar for long time, but his downhill always was bad.

Stu Beal         $Tourmalet
John Jones         Oska

OUT:
Allan Winger     Speedbird
Isaac Montgomery  vercors

Bad results...The leader and free roles were loosing time in S2, and I was even a bit aggressive at the beginning! only a few helpers were in the first positions at S4, so..

19    Steve Owens      26   0: 34"   20      Oska
20    Denis Curry      26   0: 34"   10      Manicomicos_Cycling_Team
24    Vinnie Coleman      25   0: 34"   0      los_leones_del_sur

Only 30 points, a bit worst than last season.

The next race seems that is going to be a chaos... Wind and cold!

Only 30 points, a bit worst than last season.
Given that there was four 24 year olds ahead, it's about expectations.  We'd been picking up more points than we should have in these races, but with each season bringing in additional more perfect opponents, it's only going to get harder to do so.

Y decided to select Dan Gilbee as a U24 because the difference between the leader and the latest selected guys is quite big, so they wont help a lot.

Bad race, good result, Franky ! And a good result is more important. ;)
The reason that this is possible seems to me ; many NT managers were not satisfied how this stormy race went.

Good luck with sprinter Derek Nelson in the next NT race, he is for sure good enough to score points ( 5th s6 and 11th s7 ).
But especially in NT sprint stages, you never know how it will go, tactically it is always a bit of a gamble. And gambling can go well or wrong.
Title: Re: Australian National Team. S8
Post by: Aurora Australis on March 10, 2020, 09:22:03 AM
Nelson isn't good enough to score points, we've been lucky that other CFF NT managers have sucked in these races, making us look better.  And the cyclist who should have been leader gold 9 star, has something like 15 experience or so now, which is a complete waste.

Best luck on exceeding their capabilities & scoring points Franky.
Title: Re: Australian National Team. S8
Post by: Vos on March 10, 2020, 12:35:43 PM
Yes, you are totally right AA.
Now I looked it up, and I see in the golden sprinters list that Nelson is just 88th and Carter 70th.

Well, luckily for Franky the Australians of NT race 4 are better ranked in their golden list.  ;)
So, after NT race 4 the ranking by nations will look better as it is now, and more fun for Franky to compete higher in that ranking.

Sprint race with a bit of wind. And this, the wind is the only thing that can make this race a bit different and unpredictable.

The Selected 9

Derek Nelson Yvo_Meppelink_ProCycling
David Dixon LosTxinosKudeiros
Liam Duffy Compos
Tony Carter Vitimper
Markus Norwood ProCyclingTeam10
Bobby Jordan LosTxinosKudeiros
Gordon Woods RealOviedo
Stu Woods TeamRHB
Oliver Stamer FaltososDeChigre

50 points would be great, but not sure about the general level of Derek in comparison with the rest, according to the gold sprinters, he is the #89, but there are also sprint hillers before him...

And a part of CFF, I hope all the best to the people of the game in this difficult days, here in Spain the situation is chaotic. This is going to be hard. STAY AT HOME, DONT SPREAD THE VIRUS, BE SAFE!!

Bad race yesterday...in T2 far from the top positions, so then...0 points. Was not easy, if I would have chosen a more conservative tactic then in T5 probably it would be harder to get points...

It's doubtful that points were possible, can only hope Brent Hunter 22, or Ryan Pierre 21 will one day be good enough.
Now for the big question, will all 8 of my full aged TTers make the team (I believe 7 [by my TTers] is the most selected by any CFF nation from one team for any race), and Bookout has improved since the start of the season.

Nice results, Franky (and Aurora Australis), although it is by far not the Australian race record in points of the time trial of previous season.
But Australia gained many places in the ranking by countries and at the moment a good 3rd place, just 5 points below the number 2.
And for Franky this information seems to me important also = 375 points above the 7th place.  :))  ;)
Good luck in the next cobblehills NT race !
Title: Re: Australian National Team. S8

As I stated last season, that record will never be matched again.  And as I predicted, people will be shocked at seeing the results below Levin & Trump, with the 24 year olds kicking so many older guys down the order.
The good news is that Levin will continue increasing his measure against Anderson, who's the only non-Aussie 25-26 year old to stand against the younger onslaught.  There's a question of 23 year old Yank David McDermot performing better than expected, and is Levin's & Trump's final challenge until old age catches them, but that's something for next year; or this season's TT WC as McDermot's now in a top tier team.

Don't expect points in the next race, but miracles can happen.

A miraculous 20 points in this race, well done Franky !  :)
The next NT race 6 is again not a desirable / not a suited race for Australia, so all the hope is on the final NT race 7 of this season.
And who knows, maybe these 20 extra points will be decisive. Currently the battle for a podiumplace is very close between many countries.
Good luck !

I dont like at all the result, Garza was far away from the top ones in S2, anyway, if I would used more efforts in S2, in S5 would not be enough to stay in points...meh

Bad season, but maybe this is our level...I didnt perform a great season (independently of last race), but neither a shitty one...

Too soon to make a conclusion about this season, Franky. ;)
As you mentioned yourself also in parentheses :
(independently of last race)
Because that last NT race does matter a lot in a conclusion about this season.
Many countries who battle for a podiumplace, it is close, and nr5 Australia is one of them with just 35 points behind the current number 3.
And the final cobblestones NT race of this season is exactly the same as previous season. Angus Friend did great in that race.
If he can score many points again, a podiumplace is possible.
Altough Ukraine (current nr3) scored many points too in this race of previous season.
And GB (current nr2) has 285 points more at the moment, but GB scored zero points in race 7 of season 7.

My conclusion ; it will be very exciting in the final NT race of this season.
There is a very big chance Australia will finish top4 in the ranking by countries, what is not bad at all.
But there is also a realistic (little?)chance that Australia can finish on the podium, what would be amazing and maybe a reason to declare Franky as one of the best Australian NT managers ever. :)
Of course, no pressure mate and good luck in the final NT race, that can make the difference between a decent season in a positive way and an amazing season in a very positive way.
Title: Re: Australian National Team. S8
Post by: Vos on April 06, 2020, 12:10:57 PM
But this is just my point of view, I could be wrong.
The current nr7 is just 155 points behind Australia, and Franky has a "number 7 reputation" with his own team, so we will see what happens. ;)
However ; Manicomicos_Cycling_Team is 4th :o  :)) at the moment, hopefully Franky can do the same with Australia.  8)

We only have "one of the best" class of managers in CFF Australia.

Btw: I'm always wondering whether my almost climbers could do better with different tactics, regardless of the tactics I use.  Btw, I think podium for the season is a reasonable target going into the final race, you can set tactics expecting Friend to win, providing he has teammates with him.

Well....we will see, hehe.

One candidate so far ; BikeThink. He started this game 3 days ago.
In the past it was not possible that a just starting manager could be a NT candidate. Maybe a bug ?

Fine by me if Franky or another experienced manager will be a candidate.
Also fine by me if a less experienced manager likes to do the NT job when he is commited for the whole season. We can help him.
But a candidate who started this game 3 days ago, that is exxagerated.
Probably for him no fun situation, and probably for Australia no fun situation.

I did not think yet about being a candidate or not.
But if this situation with this one candidate remains, I will be the 2nd candidate for sure, that is a no brainer to me.

Anyway, whatever happens, for example when Franky is a candidate again ; don't forget to vote everyone ( the 1st time it is important ).

I just step forward as candidate, but if any of you wants, I would step back.

Ok, very good Franky.  :)
At least now there is one good candidate versus the candidate who started 3 days ago.

Excellent victory in the final NT race, Franky, very well done !  8)
In hinside this victory was needed for a podiumplace in the season ranking, it was (as expected) really close with Estonia.
Australia 3rd in this season schedule. For sure something to be proud of ; well done as NT manager of Australia this season !

It seems to me you will be the NT manager again next season. Already good luck, Franky !  :)
Hopefully this time a mountain TT, because Benett (SPORTLIFE) was never an international despite his 8 victories in 1A, including 3 CFF records.

Yeah, finally, it was a season to be proud of...despite of what I said 7 days ago...hehe.

Yep, for next season, a climb TT and a hillsclimb would be great  ;D
