A new NT season starts !  8)

Thanks for the votes. :)
Tomorrow I will post lists, preview(s) and selection of the first NT race ; a flathills-race in Switzerland.
Already today I opened this topic, in case someone wants to post something about this NT season 10 or about Australian cyclists.

Fox advice = Send your scout to Australia !  :-* 8)
So I can make a list of the young Australian talents too. Then it will be fun for you to see your scouted Australian proudly on that list.

Cool, my cyclists are that talented they broke your calculator (well not really but it sounds good).  Next season I'll start a fresh lot of 19 year olds to attempt a repeat.
It looks like we're got a couple of decent 23 year old climbers coming, go Sacido's cyclists.

RACE 1 : FLAT-HILLS IN SWITZERLAND
(https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/etapas/luzern.jpg) (https://i.imgur.com/jYRxAqJ.jpg?1)
38ºC (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/sol.jpg)

Olten, north of Switzerland,
For the very first time this well known stage of the Tour de Suisse is a NT race. ( well known because it was always on the CFF2 calendar )
Two times before there was a flat-hill NT race on the CFF3 calendar, both were the same race in Spain of 145km.
But with a different GV because depite it was also a FFFFH race, it had an uphill finish without downhill in the final section.
Back then Australia scored points ( 10º+11º in season 4, and 4º+16º in season 5 ), hopefully also points in this different flat-hills NT race.

Because such a flat-hills race is always a bit of a gamble, there is no space for (young) xp-cyclists.
Australia is on full strenght and the best cyclists are selected according to my estimated GV for this race.
With one exception ; the nr10 Duffy is selected instead of the nr9 Curry, his teammate and 5 times international.
Both are just as good as helpers, so this is a good opportunity for Duffy to make his debut what looks better on his profile.

It is not yet entirely certain who will be the teamcaptain, and just one Aussie has an active weather icon* in this extreme heat of 38ºC.

Australia NT selection :

Cameron Jones ( 28 ) Vital
Allan Winger ( 26 ) Speedbird
Oliver Stamer ( 26 ) FaltososDeChigre
Steve Owens ( 28 ) Oska
Vinnie Coleman ( 27 ) los_leones_del_sur
Austin Burton ( 28 ) TeamRHB
Tyler Walker ( 28 ) NervionBike
Bill Furey* ( 28 ) Manicomicos_Cycling_Team  ( debut )
Denis Duffy ( 28 ) Manicomicos_Cycling_Team  ( debut )

wow, Duffy and Furey selected and Curry not!! This season Curry is going to be a bit jealous in the team...  ;D

btw: I'm a bit surprised to not seeing Aaron Palmer in the top 15 Climb-hills...a golden 9* climb-hiller
Title: Re: Australia NT Season 10
Post by: Vos on June 06, 2020, 01:30:41 PM
Aaron Palmer is just outside the top 15 on number 16 with a GV of 83,87

There is a big difference in this climbhills GV compared to the icon rating of CFF.
This GV is for a pure climbhills race, flat is just 6%. And this is the reason Aaron Palmer is outside the top 15.
For example, GV's for SanSebastian and Lombardia are completely different as this climbhills GV in my Australian NT evaluator.

For the first time ever there is climbhills race on the NT calendar.
It has a flat section in it, so that is beneficial for Aaron Palmer.
My estimated GV for that NT race 6 will be very different as the standard climbhills GV.
As you can see at my NT race 1 selection (it is in order of GV), the GV is also adapted to that race and it is not the standard flat-hills GV.
A big disadvantage for Palmer in NT race 6 ; the final section is hills ( and s5 always very important in the GV percentages ).
Palmer is more suited for a climbhills race with at least 1 flat section and a mountain section as finish.
It is questionable whether he will be selected for the climbhills NT race. But I did not look into that race yet to see how many others are better.

Over the 100, funny. :)
This is the same Australian NT evaluator I used in CFF2 where I was Australian NT manager many times.
But I cannot remember that I have seen it over the 100 before, so that probably never happened.

The climbers list is a bit misleading, because Australia has no good climbers at the moment.
Hopefully that will be better in the near future. Were Sacido's climbers in the u23 DT of previous season ?
There is a lot of real good competition in climbers, the most trained skill in this game.

This week I will look into the future chances of the young Australians.
This season Australia has 6 cyclists in the u23 Dream Team, probably more as usual, so that looks promising. :)

(https://i.imgur.com/bi7XdWp.jpg?1)  AUSTRALIA NT :  SEASON 10 PREVIEW

race 1 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/suiza.jpg)  Luzern ; flat-hills
This race is new ( see preview race 1 ), so it is difficult to estimate what to expect.
Hopefully as many points as in those 2 other, different flat-hill races.
prediction = 240 points

race 2 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/francia.jpg)(https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/italia.jpg)  Sestriere ; mountains
Australia is not good in the mountains. For example two seasons ago a 16th place in a pure mountain race.
But back in season 6 there was a very surprising good 8th place in this exact same race.
However, this is a rare exception, and the only time in a mountain race that an Australian finished in the top10.
prediction = 80 points

race 3 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/italia.jpg)  Milano ; sprint
A sprint race is easy to compare with past results ;
s5= zero points, s6= , s7= 11º, s8= zero points, and in previous season 9 there were 2 sprint races ; 11º and zero points.
A sprint race is always gambling and the level goes up every season because of new young topsprinters.
The best Australian sprinter is Nelson, he is the current nr 99 in the golden sprint list.
45 flat sprinters are better than Nelson, and probably a few other sprinters too who are listed as hills sprinter.
Let's hope the tactics will be good, so Nelson does great and can repeat the first result ( not the second result ) of season 9.
prediction = 110 points ( or zero ? )

race 4 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/italia.jpg) Torino ; time trial
Thanks to Aurora Australis every season many points in the TT ;
s5= 815, s6= 725, s7= 955 + 1.045, s8= 835 and s9= 920.
prediction = 900

race 5 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/francia.jpg)  Meudon (very near to Paris) ; flat-cobblehills
Zero points in all different cobblehills races in the past 5 seasons. Logical, because Australia has no top cobblehills riders.
Only in the very first NT season 2 Australia scored many points in a pure cobblehills race ( 6º and 13º ),
after that only in season 4 there was a 17º place in a Strade Bianche NT race, and since then always zero points.
But I'm hopefull ( and perhaps not realistic ), because it is the first time this NT race with 3 flat sections is on the NT calendar.
With risky tactics it is maybe possible to score a few points.
prediction = 10 points

race 6 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/spain.jpg)  Barcelona ; climbhills
For the very first time a climbhills race, so no past results.
The best Australian hillsclimber is on nr 65 in the golden climb list, and there are 39 better foreign hillsclimbers.
But this does not have to mean that Australia will be bad in this specific climbhills race.
A top result and/or a few point-scoring Aussies seems to me out of the question, but it is difficult to estimate how Australia will do.
So it will be a wild guess ;
prediction = 140 points

race 7 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/holanda.jpg)(https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/belgica.jpg)  Breskens ; cobblestones
The start- and finishplace is in Breskens, a town in the Netherlands, but this race is almost entirely in Belgium.
Belgium is the current world champion. The Netherlands finished as 3rd in previous season 9 but was the world champion in season 8.
So this could be a very appropriate apotheosis in the battle of the world championship.
Australia will go for the race victory with Angus Friend who was the teamcaptain on the cobblestones in s6=, s7=, and s8=.
prediction = 300 points

- - - - - - - - - -

Add this all up, and the very optimistic total season prediction = 1.780 points  :o  :))
Belgium is the current world champion with 1.620 points.
The Netherlands was world champion in season 8 with 1.685 points.
Of course, my prediction is way too optimistic, and there is many fierce competition this season.
For example France, Portugal and Ukraine will probably benefit of the climbhills race.
And countries like Spain, Great Britain and Norway are most likely rivals too.
And maybe Italy and Denmark can compete for podiumplaces, or another country that I have not mentioned.

Season goal of Australia = battle for a podiumplace. 8)
NT race 1 will be already very important for Australia, almost no points is also possible instead of my point rich prediction.
edit ; ( in bold my favorites, in blue the future nr 3, with the remark that I could be completely wrong )

Bad start of the NT season. In NT race 1 unexpectedly it went wrong in s3 althoug the peleton was still big with 72.
But in s3 the teamcaptain, 3 helpers and 3 free rolers suddenly could not follow. And almost all used energy in s3.

Free role Winger saved the honor of Australia by scoring 10 points. ( that is about 4% of my optimistic prediction  :-[ :)) )

Yah, I know that.. Aaron is more suitable for races like Stage 5 of Paris Nice or Stage 1 Tirreno this season...

For NT Race 6, Joe Ryan could be 1 of our best options...I think others like Henderson, Burgess, Carey, etc...has a profile with more climbing and less hills...I dont remember exactly.

I have to look into that NT race 6, hopefully Australia has some suited climbhills riders for that specific race.
Because points are needed after a dissapointing NT race 1, otherwise the season goal of battling for a podium place will not be achieved.

But first the mountain race where the expectations are very low.
After that the sprint race in Milano ; prepare your 20yo Jasper Blair good, for sure he will be selected. 8)

1ºC (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/lluvia.jpg)

Saint Gervais, French Alps,
The expectations are low in this cold and brutal monster stage of 254km to Sestriere ( Italy ).
Australia has zero golden climbers who are listed as pure climber in the golden climbers list of 336(!) cyclists.
Garza will be the teamcaptain who has a golden icon on flat-climb, but I assume he has just silver on pure climb.
Hopefully he can score a few points anyway.

6 climbers are selected, including the 21yo Furey who makes his debut.
This NT race is a good opportunity to select xp cyclists as well. All 3 are in the u23 Dream Team ;
Hunter (climbills) and Iverson (flat-TT) will make their debut also, and Morton (hills) was selected just 1x before.
And no worries for managers who have also very promising young Australian talents, they are all on my radar and maybe selected next time.
For example the 20yo sprint-toptalent Blair (3x international) will be selected next week.

Australia NT selection :

Anthony Garza ( 28 ) SaulSalinasTeam
Daniel Lucas ( 28 ) SAGASAI
Scott Springsteen ( 28 ) Manicomicos_Cycling_Team
Colin Mount ( 23 ) Sacido
Ryan Henderson ( 23 ) FrançaiseDesJeux
Jason Furey ( 21 ) PDM_cycling_team   ( debut )

Well, the lists are for fun and an indication to compare. But there is nothing to compare yet, because there are just 18x 19yo's.
So this u20 list is just for fun. :)
And as a reward for scouting in Australia, and as an encouragement to others to also scout in Australia.

The miracle tactics in the mountains of NT race 2 worked ! Garza finished as 16º !  8)  :)

Maybe people wonder now :"Why is Vos so happy with just a 16th place ?"
Because this is a more than excellent result and the tactics went perfect, including the help Garza had in the first 3 sections.

And I'm used to race in the mountains with much and much better climbers of my own team, who are even by far not the best in the game.
So I had to adjust the "fox mountain tactics" drastically to the very low level in quality of Garza and his helpers.
And of course heavily dependent on the effect of helpers and the effect of the teamcaptain role.

60 points scored in this race, what makes a total score of 70 points in 2 NT races.
Now we passed Italy, who could not score points with their much better climbers ( among them Coppi and my own Miorlin ),
17 more countries to overtake, because Australia is now 18th in the ranking by nations.

We stay in Italy, because next week a NT sprint race with finish in a cold Milan.

WOW!! Great to see Jasper there!! But also it is a shame to know that we dont have sprinters at all when the best U23 is a 20yo one...

BTW, I just bought Devin Byers, a good prospect of hiller-climbhiller that my training can be good for him...he doesn't have a very high level of hills, but as after flat I will be training hills...maybe I can make a good cyclist for our country  :)

Devin Byers   Age : 20   Wage : 828
Stamina : 62   Sprint : 6   Climbing : 59
Flat : 40   Cobblestone : 8   Technique : 51
Downhill : 55   Hills : 83   Aggressiveness : 64

Indeed, in some specialities Australia has no generation at all, or even more generations without a decent good cyclist.

About Devin Beyers, he is just outside the top15 of the list above, coincidental 8x 20yo's just outside the u23 climbhills list ;

16  Tim Caan   20      Mir      61,68
17  Dean Chambers   20      Arosa       61,54
18  Devin Byers   20      Manicomicos_Cycling_Team      61,09
19  Noel Moore   20      GOAT       60,80
20  Callum Walkins   20      Ares      60,70
21  Kendall Palmer   20      Teamsomio      60,66
22  Benjamin Glass   20      team_piroshki      60,16
23  Jasper Brown   20      Gepetto_Broders      59,78

This week I will also post the u21 and the u22 lists, then it will be more clear and then all different youth lists are posted.
Next week I will post another u20 list, hopefully then much more 19yo Australians than we have now.
Because also in the new generation we are missing out many specialities at the moment.

2 days ago I posted the u20 list.
https://cyclingforfun.org/smf/index.php?topic=632.msg21631#msg21631

Tomorrow I will post the u21 list, the only youth list I did not posted yet.
Probably that list will make also clear where Australia needs good 19yo's.
If not, I will post the u20 list again. At the moment 24x 19yo's and just a few good ones. Tomorrow more about this.
For now, everything is needed, it does not matter much what you scout/recruit for, every good 19yo is an asset to Australia.

Australia u21
(https://i.imgur.com/0tHcuPy.png?1)

The current best 19yo's are also in this u21 list.
This week I make a u20 list again, so with just the 19yo's. Today one less 19yo compared to yesterday, at the moment just 23x 19yo's.

About the question :"what is the best to recruit/scout ?"

According to me this can be the best answered by looking at the big picture, and not just looking at one generation.
In CFF3 the cyclists are 7 seasons at their peak, and 8 seasons if you count the 31yo's as well. The real top cyclists are still good then.
The best is to look at all youth generations ( = 5 seasons ) to see what Australia needs,
ánd to look at the most common NT races on the calendar.

The 6 types of NT races that are almost every season on the calendar :
Flat-TT, flat-sprint, hills, cobblehills, flat-cobble and climb (sometimes with 1 or 2 flat sections).
By memory, so correct me if I'm wrong ; after these 6 most important types, there was 3x flat-hills and 2x hills-TT in all 9 NT seasons.
But sometimes one of the 6 most important types had 2 (the same) NT races on the season calendar.
So let's look how Australia will do in the future in those 6 most important types.

flat-TT =

flat-sprint =

hills =

cobblehills =

flat-cobble =

climb ( sometimes with 1 or 2 flat sections ) =

Blanc spaces, because it is a nice puzzle for all Australian managers to try to solve.
What helps to puzzle ; I posted lists of every generation, and most Australian managers can see the u23 DT and all golden CFF lists.
Of course, it is too difficult to estimate how good a very young Australian really will be ;
the talent rating is of influence, and even more important can be how good a manager trains the young Australian talent.

For those who don't like to puzzle ; it seems to me that recruiting/scouting in 19yo cobblehills talents benefits the future of Australia.
But there are more good options (such as flat-cobble and even climb), and every toptalent (in no matter what) is welcome Down Under. :)

Although he was really close, if only some stats were a little bit different.
I even suspect you tried to sell him for 1,- and if he is not sold, it is logical you fire him.
And place in your team for a much better cyclist is of course very good. :)

This weekend I will post the u20 list again. At the moment 25 x 19yo's.
A few potential good ones, maybe very good, but it seems to me that in general this new 19yo generation is not lucky in recruiting/scouting.

RACE 3 : SPRINT IN MILAN

2ºC (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/nieve.jpg)

Milan, Italy,
My text about this sprint race in the too optimistic season preview says enough :
race 3 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/italia.jpg)  Milano ; sprint
A sprint race is easy to compare with past results ;
s5= zero points, s6= , s7= 11º, s8= zero points, and in previous season 9 there were 2 sprint races ; 11º and zero points.
Let's hope the tactics will be good, so Nelson does great and can repeat the first result ( not the second result ) of season 9.
prediction = 110 points ( or zero ? )

Nelson gets more than sufficient support in this selection that consists almost exclusively of sprinters.
Two xp-cyclists are selected, the very young talents Blair (sprint) and Shields (flat-hills).

Australia NT selection :

Derek Nelson ( 28 ) Yvo_Meppelink_ProCycling
Tony Carter ( 28 ) HorsCategorieProTeam
David Dixon ( 28 ) LosTxinosKudeiros
Oliver Stamer ( 26 ) FaltososDeChigre
Brent Hunter* ( 24 ) FrançaiseDesJeux
Stu Woods ( 28 ) TeamRHB

 ???  Suddenly teamcaptain Nelson could not follow the peleton of 94 ( ! ) cyclists in section 2.
And all 6 Australian helpers had no problems and were in the huge peleton of s2, even the ones who took risk in the helpers tactic.
Very weird, I guess Nelson was sick in this NT sprint race, otherwise I cannot explain this result :  111º  Nelson   :-[ :o
We can rule out that he became sick due to a virus in his team, because his Dutch teammate won.

After this strange and very dissapointing sprint race, Australia is now last in the ranking by nations. :(
Next week a time trial, it is up to Aurora Australis to save us from a major disaster failure this season.

Funny information and not exaggerated, almost a fact ;
when the 20yo Blair would have had the teamcaptain role, most likely he would have finished better than Nelson in a teamcaptain role.
And this is one of the many indications that this was a very weird sprint race of Nelson.

Chieri, north west Italy,
6 out of the 7 selected AA-time-trialists scored 920 points in the time trial of previous season.
Three-time world champion Levin won that race, and one-time world champion Trump finished as 2nd.
Hopefully again such a successful time trial.

The best 9 TT-specialists are selected, because on a lucky day also the 3 least ones can score a few points.
Unfortunately this means there is no room for the young Australian talents. They might get their chance on extra xp in the next NT race.

Australia NT selection :

Isaac Trump ( 28 ) Aurora_Australis

Amazing results of the Australian TT specialists ! They scored 1.095 points !  8)
And that is a new record of most points in one race. The old record was also of Australia ; 1.045 points in the 2nd time trial of season 7.
Australia moved up from the last position to the first position in the ranking by countries.  :)
Of course, all credits go to Aurora_Australis !  :-* 8)

Bell (2sec short), Slipper (3sec short) and Wilson (3sec short) scored almost points.

Next week a flat cobble hills race near Paris. And in cobble hills Australia has the opposite tradition than in time trial.
The past 5 seasons Australia scored zero points in cobble hills races.

RACE 5 : STORM IN NORTHERN FRANCE
(https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/etapas/chatou.jpg) (https://i.imgur.com/A5vrPF2.jpg?1)
27ºC (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/viento3.jpg)

Chatou, very near to Paris,
Most likely Australia will score zero points, nevertheless the most strong selection possible and just one young xp cyclist is selected.
The first time this cobble hills race with 3 flat sections is on the NT calendar, and the storm can make this race difficult and unpredictable.
Maybe Australia can score a few points by profiting of the storm / unlucky tactics of other countries.
In an attempt to profit of this, Australia needs many "suited" cyclists. No quality Down Under, so maybe quantity will do the job, I have to try. :)

Australia NT selection :

Alex Byers ( 27 ) Fountain
Kirk Trump ( 28 ) $Tourmalet
Peter Beckham ( 27 ) Team_Klykke
Keith Sheehan ( 27 ) Sabmazz
Elliot Neville* ( 28 ) CessiApedali
Nate Douglas ( 28 ) SentinelChickens
Grant Curry ( 28 ) BLOEMENAANDEMITTE
Cameron Jones ( 28 ) Vital
Jasper Blair ( 20 ) Manicomicos_Cycling_Team
Title: Re: Australia NT Season 10
Post by: Vos on July 05, 2020, 10:22:45 PM
I had to gamble in this race to try to score a few points, and with the storm there are 2 options to gamble ;
attack and use energy in the flat sections or save many energy in the flat sections and gamble on a strong 55 finish.
I tried the last option with teamcaptain Byers, and with an excellent result = 10th ! :)

I must say that Byers was lucky to have a helper in s1, s2, s3 ánd the important s4.
Because I tried a few different free role tactics, so there were not many helpers.
Luckily Beckham was a (too fast) helper and he was together with Byers in s4.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Race report :

In s1 it looked like my gamble would be a disaster ; already Byers was on 0:21 of the front group of 38.
And only 2 Australians ( 1 helper and 1 free role ) were in that front group.

In s2 even one group further behind and already on 0:40"
Still surrounded by most Australians, including 2 helpers and dissapointing free roles.
Only helper Beckham stayed in the 2nd group as important forward pawn tactic.
And still the 2 same Aussies in the leading group of now 29.

In s3 still in the 3rd group but the gap a few seconds bigger ; 0:42"
And Byers lost 1 helper, so just 1 helper left in s3, the others were free roles.
In the front "helper" Curry could not follow. Only free role Douglas was in the break away group of 20, including 7 Belgians. :o

In s4 it was full power for Byers and he came closer.
Now it was a fragmented race with many little groups. Byers was in the group of number 26 to 39 on 0:33"
And important, together with a helper.
Free role rider Douglas dropped to the group of 21 to 25, just 4 seconds ahead of Byers and helper Beckham.
For Douglas this means he has no chance anymore to score points.
Also for free roles Trump and Neville (1 group behind Byers) it is already in s4 clear they will not score points despite their energy for s5.

In s5 a magnificant climb of the final cobblehill resulted in an excellent 10th place for Byers.  8)
He was the best silver cyclist in this race, in fact, 18 out of the top 20 had golden icons, only the Italian nr17 had also just silver.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

In the past 5 seasons Australia did not score points in a cobblehills race, so these are 120 unexpected bonus points.
Belgium did amazing in this race ; Pierre won and 7 ( ! ) Belgians scored a total of 790 points in this race.
This makes Belgium the new leader in the season ranking, and Australia dropped just one place.

Next week we go to a rainy, cold and windy Barcelona for the very first climbhills NT race of CFF3.
The best Australian hillsclimber is ranked as number 71 in the golden climbers list. 42 foreign hillsclimbers are higher ranked.

Australian NT manager update ; Kirk Workman is the very first xp cyclist for next NT races.

He was already very close to make his debut, but so far I selected just a few xp cyclists this season.
I gave the nr1 of the u23 TT dream team already an xp place this season, and about time the nr2 Workman will make his debut also.

Unfortunately, in the next climbhills NT race it is really close behind the already selected top 4 ;
about 13 Aussies have a chance to get one of the 5 remaining spots, so no room for xp cyclists in NT race 6.
Also because Australia is battling for a podium place, what will be difficult.
Belgium is too good ( a good current lead ánd VanKerckhove for NT race 6 ), probably Ukraine is also too good,
and enough rivals for the 3rd place, for example France who should do great in NT race 6.

But in cobbleflat NT race 7 I will select at least 1 or a few xp cyclists, so Workman will make his debut for sure.
Good luck in training him well, AA, and I really like his stats ánd his 3 weather icons.  8)

Do you have any idea of who can be the leader on Sunday?  ::)

= Niles Thomas ( ZBT ).

Maybe this evening, more likely tomorrow morning, I make the preview of NT race 6 already.
Also then I will select a few more, but a big chance I select the final 2 or 3 cyclists on Saturday, a few days later it can look different.
Because many Aussies are really, really close in the estimated GV for this specific climbhills race.
( I have several GV percentages, just in case my estimated GV is not accurate, and many are really close in every different GV )
And for sure the GV is not the only factor in who I select as good helpers.
For example a good climb skill (in combo with a good GV) for the first 2 sections, and for example active weather icons are of influence too.

Barcelona,
The very first climbhills NT race in CFF3.
In theory there are many better foreign climbhills specialists, but in this specific climbhills race it is hard to estimate how Australia will perform.
I do expect some points, and those are very welcome in the battle for a podiumplace in the season ranking.
Belgium is 1st and seems to me out of reach, ánd the top favorite to be the world champion again.
Australia is 2nd, and most likely Ukraine, Spain and France are fierce rivals for a podiumplace. What will be more clear after this race.

Australia NT selection :

Niles Thomas* ( 28 ) ZBT   ( debut )
Phil Burgess ( 28 ) Cycling   ( debut )
Nate Henderson* ( 28 ) TeamSerfin
Joe Ryan ( 28 ) Manicomicos_Cycling_Team

Yes, thanks for being perceptive, Ophioko, adjusted to 25.  :)
It was a writing error because I knew Steven Marbley is 25yo, if he was 28yo he had less chance to be selected, he has many Australian rivals.
Two not selected cyclists have even a better estimated GV, but I assume (and hope) Marbley is a better helper.

Thé future Australian teamcaptain in climbhills races ( with mountain-finish ánd hills-finish ), the just 22yo Martin Hunter ( Quickstepbronx ),
is not even selected and despite his very young age he is already very close in GV to this selection.
Luckily I gave him already an xp selection earlier this season, what was his debut.
No place for semi-xp cyclists in this important NT race.

Very good results in the very first climbhills NT race ;
6º Niles Thomas ( teamcaptain ), 14º Joe Ryan ( the only free role of Australia ) and 18º Nate Henderson ( helper ).
This gives a total of 270 points.  8)
Only the Netherlands ( 315 points ) and Belgium ( 300 points due to the victory of VanKerckhove ) did better in NT race 6.
Also Estonia scored a good amount of points ( 250 ) and is the new nr3, just 75 points ahead on the new nr4 the Netherlands.
France ( 150 ), Spain ( 70 ) and Ukraine ( 40 ) did much worse as I expected, what is good for Australia.  :)

Great great race!! I think we have a few chances of winning this season, Angus Friend has the key, as we have a gap of 160 points only...
Title: Re: Australia NT Season 10
Post by: Vos on July 13, 2020, 09:33:09 AM
Well, at the moment it is very uncertain with a gap of 160 points, despite Australia has Angus Friend.

The best 3 flat-cobble-specialists in the golden ranking looks promising :
Australia =  nr 2,  nr 24,  nr 31
Belgium =  nr 16,  nr 25,  nr 28
In theory this is a difference of 190 points ( nr 2 versus nr 16 ), what is just 30 points more as the 160 points target, even in theory exciting.

However, looking at the past results in the NT flat cobble races it does not look good / or it will be very exciting,
because in the past NT seasons Australia only one time won with more than 160 points in the flatcobble NT race.
And that was a different flatcobble race with one more flat section.

s9 --> no flat cobble NT race

s8 --> CFFCC 230km = Australia (1º+19º) 320, versus Belgium (4º+18º) 230 = difference of 90 points

s7 --> CFFCC 230km = Australia (1º+18º) 330, versus Belgium (17º) 40 = difference of 290 points

s6 --> CFCCC 211km = Australia (4º+18º) 230, versus Belgium (12º) 100 = difference of 130 points

s5 --> CFCCC 190km, exactly the same race in Breskens = Australia (4º+17º) 240, versus Belgium (13º) 90 = difference of 150 points

s4 --> no flat cobble race

s3 --> CFCCC 190km, exactly the same race in Breskens = Australia (3º) 225, versus Belgium (11º) 110 = difference of 115 points

s2 --> CFFCC 230km = Australia (5º) 180, versus Belgium (4º+10º+12º) 420 = the only time Belgium was better

Some conclusions can be made out of this :
Of course, seasons 2 and 3 do not apply, too long ago, the situation changed a lot.
And it seems to me Angus Friend is better in the cobble race with 2 flat sections than in the Breskens cobble race.
Besides this, it shows that 160 points is a much bigger gap than it seems,
and probably Australia is depended on a failure race of Belgium to have a chance to be world champion.
Also remarkable (and maybe a bit worrying) that the best ranked Belgium flat cobble specialist never scored points so far.

But at least Australia still has a (maybe little ) chance after the good NT race 6 where much more points were scored as expected.
And the Belgian VanKerckhove won stage 3 Catalunya this season, so not surprising he did great in this exact same NT race 6 in Barcelona.
Anyway, it is not impossible that Australia can be world champion, and I did not expect this before NT race 6, what I mentioned in the preview :
Belgium is 1st and seems to me out of reach, ánd the top favorite to be the world champion again.
Also I expected that the battle for a podiumplace would be very fierce and many rival countries close together before NT race 7.
But Australia has at the moment a good gap of 400 points towards the number 3, what normally should be enough to finish at least 2nd.

RACE 7 : BRESKENS

29ºC (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/viento1.jpg)(https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/lluvia.jpg)

Breskens, the Netherlands,
It looks very good that Australia will be 2nd this season, and even has a little chance to be the new world champion.
As the picture shows, the main target is Belgium. With home advantage, because almost this whole race is on Belgian cobblestones.
To have a very strong selection, only 1 xp cyclist and the 8 best flatcobble-specialists are selected. Of course, Angus Friend is the teamcaptain.

Australia NT selection :

Angus Friend ( 27 ) °Peachy°Melocotons
Eric Kelly* ( 28 ) Antequera
Kent McClure ( 28 ) CobbleCrushers
John Battle ( 28 ) Antequera
Jasper Sandfort ( 28 ) HorsCategorieProTeam
Jonny Glass ( 28 ) CCPicazo
Dylan Gilliam* ( 28 ) Manicomicos_Cycling_Team
Ron Dardar ( 28 ) Antequera
Kirk Workman** ( 22 ) Aurora_Australis   ( debut )

Hmmmm, remarkable, I guess Angus Friend was not motivated or so, the 3 EP start as teamcaptain was not good enough,
and despite his high GV and high flat, he was in s2 already in the 4th group (nrs64 to 99) on 0:44"  ???
To make it even worse, very unexpected he was isolated in s3 and s4.
It was a very surprising bad race of Angus Friend compared to the other Australians.
To me it makes no sense, and I cheked the tactics a few times before the race, no mistakes there, and he was the teamcaptain.

Despite the bad race of the team captain, Australia scored many points ( 280 ) with 3 cyclists in the top20.
9º Battle ( surprising, successful free role tactic )
11º Friend  :-[
17º Kelly ( Friend should have been in the wheel of best helper Kelly in s4, but Friend was far behind in s4 )

A 9º place is the worst result ever of Australia in a cobble flat race,
but the total amount of 280 points is good, it is even an Australian record in a cobble flat race with 1 flat section.

Unfortunately Belgium did much better in this NT race 7 with 4 cyclists in the top20, and scored 440 points.
So again Belgium is world champion, just like in previous season. And it seems to me it is a well deserved world championship.

Final season 10 ranking / podium ;
1. (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/belgica.jpg)  2.155
2. (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/australia.jpg)  1.835
3. (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/holanda.jpg)  1.370

Australia scored even 55 more points than what I predicted in my season 10 preview*.
And Australia scored more points this season 10 than the world champion of previous season 9 ( also Belgium with 1.620 points ).

And maybe Australia wins the individual world championship ?
Because the 7 NT race winners are on a split number 1 with 300 points, and CFF gives Richard Levin the nr1 position.
But I clicked all 7 cyclists, and nobody has the individual NT championship jersey yet of season 10. Maybe it will show after the update.

Bad luck this time with Friend...anyway, Belgium did it very well, so congrats to Belgium, and great season VOS, we gain another medal, our 7th...we are historically the best National Team, hehe

Thanks Franky, although this 2nd place is my worst result ( in CFF3 ) as Australian NT manager.  :))  ;)
However, this 2nd season as NT manager finally "my" first NT race victory, of course, thanks to Aurora_Australis because Levin won the TT.
Maybe Levin wins the individual world championship as well, I guess we have to wait till the season update to know that.
( I have seen split first places a few times before in CFF2, the current ranking does not have to mean anything, I know from experience with Mutombo )

And indeed, Australia is doing great in the ( not yet updated ) ranking most medals and most points.  8)
