The TDU goal is to go for stage results ;
Rubiera in stages 1 + 5, Dagorret in stage 2, and the today bought TT specialist Quinziatto in stage 4.

101 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/spain.jpg) Rubiera ( 26 ), hills
102 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/francia.jpg) Dagorret ( 32 ), climbhills
103 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/holanda.jpg) Meijer ( 24 ), hills
104 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/suiza.jpg) Zutter ( 24 ), hillsclimb
105 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/italia.jpg) Quinziatto ( 31 ), TT

stage 1 TDU ;
13º  Rubiera
15º  Dagorret ( free role )
A bad result of Rubiera, because he could challenge the favorites and he had help in the first three sections.
Free role rider Dagorret ( silver hills icon ) did amazing and he surprised me a lot by finishing in the same time as Rubiera ( on 0:09" ).

Excellent victories ! Congrats Franky !  8)  8)

stage 3 TDU ;
2º  Dagorret  on 0:00" --> grrrrr, he lost the sprint-a-deux to an unknown local Australian. ;)  :))
15º  Zutter ( helper )
26º  Rubiera ( free role )
Almost a victory, unfortunately my silver Dagorret (who could not challenge any favorites) was prey to Hunter.

My team hasn't had a victory in over 2 seasons.  Oh well, one bit of ok news, for the shortest period Australian teams are 1st, 4th, & 5th in the Div1 standings.

stage 4 TDU ;
16º  Quinziatto
stage 5 TDU ;
3º  Dagorret  on 0:00"
29º  Rubiera ( free role ) on 0:04"

Very unexpected podium place of Dagorret, who finished in the final GC as 16º on 2:05" what is also surprising to me due to his bad TT.
He even could have finished top10 GC if he did not had a mechanical breakdown in the crucial s2 of stage 2, what costed him at least 0:30"
Rubiera finshed just 27 seconds outside the GC points, with 1x teamcaptain role, 3x free roles, and 2x mechanical breakdowns in the TT stage.

stage 1 PN ;
15º  Stubbe  on 1:29"
Unexpected and dissapointing that Stubbe was not in the front group of dh s2. By missing this cut, it is almost certain he wasted 1 EP in s1.
In s3 he even was isolated, but 2 helpers came to the rescue in s4, so at least Stubbe finished good due to the extra helpers bonus.
Hopefully mountain stage 4 goes a little bit better.
stage 2 PN ;
  Stubbe  on 0:00"
stage 3 PN ;
  Stubbe  on 0:00" = solo victory ! 8)
The very first victory in his career.
(https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/jerseys/jersey_yellow.png) Stubbe is the new GC leader. :)
But it will be extreme difficult to win Paris-Nice, also because the rivals are very close ;
nr2 Vereckei ( Agua_Verde ) on 0:03" in the current GC, and he was 57 seconds faster in mountain stage 1.
And the top 7 GC is within 0:39", so, finishing outside the final GC podium is possible too.
Title: Re: Season 18
Post by: Vos on July 10, 2021, 01:19:39 PM
stage 4 PN ;
11º  Stubbe  on 1:17"
29º  Kummer ("helper")

A tactical bad race.
With so much good support it should go much better. Stubbe had only help in s1 + s2, and was isolated in s3 + s4.

Hillsclimber Vorre was going too fast in the first three sections, and not good enough to help in s4.
Masterhelper Macannazi started too fast, helped in s2, and dropped already in s3.
Best masterhelper Kummer only helped in s1, and was riding the rest of the race one group behind his teamcaptain.
Both masterhelpers were 0:08" behind in the crucial s4.
I expected that at least one of them would do a good helpers job, but that did not happen.

The positive aspect of this mountain race ; only 2 GC rivals did better.
As expected, one of them was Vereckei ( Agua_Verde ), again he finished much sooner, just like in stage 1, this time 43sec ahead.
He takes back the GC lead, and is leading with a gap of 0:39" towards nr 2 Stubbe.
A few GC rivals did not ride a good stage 4, so Stubbe has less rivals now as expected.
The nr5 is already on 1:26", but nr3 Fraga on 0:55" and nr4 Körvér on 0:57" could  still be fierce rivals for a podiumplace.
Or even the Paris-Nice victory, but that will depend entirely on GC leader Vereckei, only if he fails in stage 5 there might be a chance.
Title: Re: Season 18

stage 5 PN ;
(https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/incidencias/bombilla.png) 7º Stubbe  on 0:13"
12º Dagorret ( helper )
A very good race.
But the 53º place on 0:34" of GC leader Vereckei ( Agua_Verde ) was good enough for him to win Paris-Nice.

Stubbe finished as GC on just 0:18"
A good result, but also a missed opportunity to win this little tour.

20º  Beck ( free role )
21º  Baiao ( free role )
27º  Dagorret ( helper )
stage 2 TA ;
12º  Stubbe
stage 3 TA ;
3º  Bleidelis
Excellent podiumplace, and also nice that he scored a little sponsordeal.

(https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/amarillo.png) Stubbe is still leading the 1A individual ranking. :)
But he cannot score GC points in this Tirreno-Adriatico, so he enjoys this leadership while he still can.
The Swiss shopmanager is happy with this temporary jersey, even after stage 3 ( 92º Stubbe ) a bruto-profit of 4.905,-

stage 5 TA ;
3º  Stubbe  on 0:00"
23º  Baiao ( free role )
In retrospective, I should have taken more risk in order to try to win this race.

There were some unexpected extra GC points in this Tirreno ;
14º GC  Baiao , despite he rode all stages in free roles.
20º GC  Stubbe , despite he cannot sprint and is very bad in time trial.

I did not had a selection in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad,
and as expected, my silver cobblehills specialist was not suited for Strade Bianche ( 53º ).
But some points were scored in the recent 2 classic races :

Milano Sanremo ;
12º  Bleidelis
A dissapointing result, but logical, because he did not had a good helper.
Beck should have been the very important s4 helper, but he already dropped in s2.
Maybe a wrong helper tactic, although he had to gamble and most likely he was just not good enough as MSR helper.

E3 Harelbeke ;
27º  Antic
As expected, my silver cobblehills cyclist had just help in s1, so, he had to do it on his own.
Despite this, he rode a very good race. For example, in s4 he was in the 2nd group of nrs 13 to 26 on just 0:09"
But to my surprise he could not finish well, apparently he had a bad or unlucky s5. Or the competition was too good.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Hopefully it goes better in the next little tour.
Beck should ride a very good Catalunya, but maybe my expectation is too high because he is just a silver tour rider.

65 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/suiza.jpg) Stubbe ( 32 ), bronze tour

stage 1 Catalunya ;
10º  Beck  on 0:29"
28º  Stubbe ( free role ) on 0:52"
Thanks to good help of Macannazi (and Vorre), Beck finished very good in the 1st chasing group ( nrs 2 to 13 ) behind solo victor Mork.

stage 2 Catalunya ;
8º  Beck  on 0:44"
15º  Stubbe ( free role ) on 1:07"
24º  Macannazi ("masterhelper")
More than excellent result despite Beck had just help in 3 sections,
and help in s3 of Vorre, because super-masterhelper Macannazi dissapointed a lot by going too slow in s3 and somehow never returned.

stage 3 Catalunya ;
30º  Stubbe ( free role ) on 1:14"
- - - - -
31º  Beck on 1:18" with mechanical breakdown in s5.  :(
A tactical disaster !  :-[
Beck was already isolated in s2 ;
Bleidelis ( hill-sprinter ) did a good job in s1, but was going too fast in s2, s3, ánd s4.  :o  ???
I did not expect this at all, because Bleidelis should be not so good in a pure hills stage due to his low hills GV.
I guess he had an extreme lucky day, he even finished just 4 seconds behind teamcaptain Beck and just 8 seconds behind Stubbe.
What I did not expect too ; masterhelper Vorre started too slow and was riding the whole race one group (and just seconds) behind Beck.

On top of this tactical disaster with an isolated Beck, the drama was increased with his mechanical breakdown in the crucial s5.
For sure Beck lost unnecessary, valuable time in this stage.

Very dissapointed my teamcaptain was doing his cooling down, when a jury-member asked Beck to follow him.
Beck assumed he had to go to the doping control, but to his big surprise he was called to the podium to receive the jersey as new GC leader !

stage 4 Catalunya ;
1º  Beck  8)
Superb victory !
Because he could not challenge any favorites and this is his very first win in his career. :)

All GC rivals finished on 0:00", so nothing changed.
With the exception of my free role rider Stubbe, who dropped from 4º GC to 12º GC because he cannot sprint.

The numbers 2 and 3 are very close ; on 0:25" and 0:31", and both have sprint icons.
Also the nr 4 has a sprint icon, but probably / maybe he is already too far behind on 1:11"
It is looking good that silver tour rider Beck will achieve a podiumplace, and hopefully he can win this Catalunya.
But it is also possible that the desastereus stage 3 will cost him the overall victory.  :-\

stage 5 Catalunya ;
19º  Bleidelis ( masterhelper with 5x hand symbol ) on 0:00"
44º  Beck  on 0:26"
Beck was still in the s4 front group of 48, thanks to a perfect helpers job of Bleidelis.
Finishing in the 2nd group is a great result,
and it even caused ( with a very big difference ) the final GC victory in Catalunya !  8)

By not competing in the classic cobblehills races, normally my team would drop into the relegation zone, or almost into it.
Not this season, because my team was ranked very high after the victory in Catalunya, so it was just a drop of 3º to 8º in 1A.
With the same remark to myself as in most other seasons ; someday I really have to buy 2 cobblehills specialists, maybe next season. :)

Anyway, time to score some points in a little tour.
Unfortunately Itzulia has a time trial, what makes Beck ( 1º Catalunya ) and Stubbe ( 2º Paris-Nice ) not suited for the GC.
So, my team will go for stage results.
I forgot to send my both hills-specialists on training camp in time to ride this Itzulia too.
Instead, now Quinziatto and Vorre are selected.
Also hillsclimbers Vorre and Zutter cannot score GC points, but this selection should be pretty strong in stages 2 + 3.
Beck likes stage 5 a lot, and Quinziatto can score a few points in stage 1, the time trial.

stage 1 Itzulia ;
18º Quinziatto

stage 2 Itzulia ;
11º Stubbe on 0:37" :-[
24º Zutter ("helper")
Enormous mega tactical disaster !

stage 3 Itzulia ;
11º Stubbe on 0:26"  :-[
13º Zutter ( free role )
26º Beck ( helper )
Massive tactical disaster !

stage 4 Itzulia ;
Tactical disaster !
Stubbe ( 33º ) and Zutter ( 32º ) finished just outside the points.

So far a very bad little tour. Luckily in stage 5 another teamcaptain. :P
It is up to Catalunya-winner Beck to save the honor of SPORTLIFE and try to get the first top10 stage result in Itzulia.
In contrast to Stubbe, who was the 2nd favorite in stage 2 and the 5th favorite in stage 3 ;
Beck is not a favorite and cannot even challenge the favorites, but he should be good enough to achieve this goal.
Probably Beck has to do it on his own, because the helpers tactics might be disastrous due to the very bad tactical skills of the manager. ;D

stage 5 Itzulia ;
10º  Beck
Maybe a better teamcaptain tactic was possible, but at least Beck achieved his goal ( with help in s1 and s2 ).
Stubbe scored a few unexpected extra points by finishing as 17º in the final GC.

Unfortunately I have no cyclists for the upcoming Paris-Roubaix, but SPORTLIFE will be present in the 3 classic hills races.

Amstel Gold Race ;
36º  Rubiera  on 0:54"  :-[
Big failure !
The risky 1 EP start was not good enough, in s3 Rubiera was already isolated, and in s4 he had a mechanical breakdown.

Flèche Wallonne ;
18º  Rubiera  on 0:26"
Not a good race ; probably the tactics  could have been better. Well, at least not a very bad, disastrous race ; ánd some points were scored.

Liège–Bastogne–Liège ;
8º  Rubiera  on 0:09"
Excellent result after a good race.
Not a perfect race, because Rubiera decided to jump to the s4 front group of 5, instead of being patience,
and stay in the wheel of helper Meijer who was in the very big s4 chasing group of 26 on just 0:04"

Baiao will try to get a good GC result.
His Swiss teammates Stubbe and Zutter know the roads in Romandie very well, hopefully that is an advantage to Baiao.

stage 1 Romandie, the time trial ;
16º  Quinziatto --> with mechanical breakdown in the crucial s5.
54º  Baiao  on 2:19"

stage 2 Romandie ;
27º  Baiao  on 0:40"
Dissapointing result by finishing in the 2nd group.
I expected that Baiao could finish on 0:00", but it is unknown if it was possible in this race with just 10 cyclists finishing on 0:00"
Because Baiao is not a specialist in a climb-sprint race ( no sprint icon ), but he finished on 0:00" before in a much bigger s5 group.
Perhaps possible if helper Kummer did a better helpers job ; to my surprise he suddenly dropped in s3 and no return in s4 despite EP.

stage 3 Romandie ;
11º  Stubbe ( free role )
12º  Baiao  on 0:52"
After the lost time in stage 2,  I had to take risk in stage 3 in a desperate attempt to still get a top GC result with Baiao.
Also Stubbe had to take risk if he wants a top stage result in a free role.
But my whole team started too slow and could not follow the s1 front peleton of 52.
The 1 EP start of Baiao and Stubbe was clearly too risky with 2 stripes of wind, despite both had an active weather icon.
And Baiao was already isolated in s3, what is not good too.
Maybe it was a better strategy to make Stubbe a helper, because now in a free role, he was the whole race with Baiao.
Although, for my total team points it probably does not matter, and Stubbe needs every point for his (maybe-) individual season goal.

stage 4 Romandie ;
14º  Baiao  on 1:27"
29º  Kummer ( helper )
After good help in s1 and s2, Baiao was isolated in s3, but in s4 Kummer came to the rescue and thanks to him this excellent result.

Baiao moved up to GC on 1:15",
but stage 5 is the by him dreaded sprint race, so I have no idea what his final GC result will be.
Title: Re: Season 18

stage 5 Romandie ;

This sprint result is good enough for ; Baiao = 10º final GC.
Title: Re: Season 18

Eschborn-Frankfurt ;
10º  Baiao
A very good result.

(https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/logos/8ed052732fddd78a1b24c0eb2887c9f6.png)   (https://i.imgur.com/GvIPZ8B.png)selection SPORTLIFE

Baiao was 10º in Romandie and 10º in Frankfurt ; so a good Giro goal seems to me top 10 GC.

This Giro selection is a last minute mess.
Also because allround helper Pizzinat was sold today for almost 200 times more than what I paid for him 4 days ago.
Besides allround, he was the only good helper in the 3 Giro stages with sprint finish.

Hopefully this lack of "sprint"help, is compensated a bit by selecting 1 hillsclimber and 2 climbers.
Now Baiao should have excellent help in the mountains and the hills.
All 3 were not planned to ride this Giro, but for my climbers it does not matter and they can use the experience.
To Vorre it is less good, because by riding this Giro, he has to ride the Vuelta with 99 form.
Probably a very needed sacrifice ; Baiao really needs a main helper like Vorre, to achieve his GC goal.

Only Rubiera was also planned to ride this Giro, but he is not much of use as helper besides flat-hills stage 5.
And maybe Rubiera will get a free role in stage 5, because helper Vorre is also a better hills rider than teamcaptain Baiao.

91 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/portugal.jpg) Baiao ( 32 ), tour
92 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/dinamarca.jpg) Vorre ( 30 ), hillsclimb

95 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/italia.jpg) Macannazi ( 27 ), climb

stage 1 Giro ;
22º  Baiao  on 0:46"
27º  Vorre ( free role )
This seems to me a good result of Baiao, despite being isolated in s4.
I had no faith in Vorre as helper, due to the big s4 difference, ánd because Baiao should have had enough good help of the climbers.
But the climbers did not help in s4, and Vorre his free result was dissapointing, so it would have been better if Vorre was a helper too.

First stage win in almost 3 seasons (since Espana season 15).

stage 2, TT ;
56º  Baiao on 2:13"

stage 3, sprint ;
74º  Baiao on 1:57"
Not a good race ; isolated from the start and too much time loss.

stage 4, climb-dh-sprint ;
21º  Baiao on 0:00"
Good support of 2 helpers in s4 and no time loss.

stage 5, flathills ;
17º  Baiao on 0:30"
45º  Rubiera ( free role )  :-[
Embarrasing result of Rubiera, who had TC and could challenge the 5th favorite. His mechanical breakdown in s1 caused this fiasco.
But much more important ; an excellent race of Baiao, thanks to a superb helpers job of Vorre, who was still with Baiao in s4.

stage 6 Giro, climbhills ;
4º  Baiao on 0:00"
9º  Vorre
Great result, thanks to masterhelper and 4th favorite Vorre.

stage 7 Giro, hills TT ;
45º  Baiao on 1:25"

At the moment Baiao is GC on 1:36"
Probably he really has to battle for a top10 final GC in the upcoming 2 mountain stages ánd in the by him feared sprint stage 10.

I am very pleased by Afonso Rio carrying "la maglia rosa" for 2 days. Most likely he will lose it today against the much better climber Pat Martin. Hopefully it will be a podium on the Giro, which will bring me closer to avoid relegation  :)

stage 8, queens stage to Pinerolo ;
5º  Kummer ( free role )
7º  Baiao on 0:31"  8)
13º  Macannazi ( helper )
30º  Vorre ( helper )
An incredible result of Baiao !
He even finished in the same time as Kummer, very unexpected to me and maybe Kummer should have been a helper too.
Maybe it did not matter, also because Baiao had good help already, and in this way more points thanks to a very good result of Kummer.

Baiao did great in the GC after this queens stage ; he even moved up four places ! :)
GC contender VanStraalen ( Combuijs ) did even much better by finishing solo as amazing 2º on 0:09"
New GC leader Martin ( HTCHungria ) was 3º by winning the sprint of the chasing group of 6, incl. Kummer and Baiao.
Rio ( OphiukoCT ) was riding a superb race by finishing with a lightbulb in the 2nd chasing group, just 19 seconds behind Martin.
Valdmanis ( KunTeam ) finished in the 3rd group on 1:10" and VanPaassen ( Agua_Verde ) in the 4th group on 1:29"

That's not good for Richard Levin in his quest to score points next season, particularly with the first flat-TT race at stage 40 for the season.  Oh well, let's hope the duct tape & string keeps his legs in one piece until then.

Indeed, it will be a very difficult goal to the then 37yo( ! ) Levin.
He has to train against decay for a long period till race 40. On the bright sight ; probably almost no TC rivals in Romandie.
Still, even if everyone is riding without TC, it will be very difficult. But I really hope he can finish top 30, good luck !

stage 9 Giro ;
9º  Baiao on 0:23"
17º  Macannazi ( helper )
Excellent stage and excellent result, thanks to his masterhelper ( and thanks to the tactics, and thanks to Baiao his active weather icon ).

Baiao is still GC, but I expect he will drop after sprint stage 10.
It seems he will drop just 1, 2 or 3 places, what would mean at least top 8 final GC, and that would be a great result of the 32yo Baiao.

I guess Ophiuko is happy too, and HTCHungria is less happy with missing out the Giro victory on 0:00" :o

My Swiss store is not making a profit anymore, so I decided to ride the Dauphiné with a Swiss team. :)
Added with an Italian TT specialist and a young American climb talent.

Well done on your first GT general victory OphiukoCT (good thing HTCHungria has won a GT previously).

And how many stores do you have Vos?
Title: Re: Season 18
Post by: Vos on July 31, 2021, 03:27:35 PM
Supporters can see how many stores a team has. The current situation =

1    FaltososDeChigre      19
2    BlackHole      19
3    Mlb      14
4    Kelme4ever      6
5    Quickstepbronx      5
6    Álvaro_Pino_Boys      5
7    Combuijs      4
8    Flyvende_hjul      4
9    SPORTLIFE      3  ( AUS+3486, GER+717, SUI-880 )
13 teams have 2 stores, and there are many teams with 1 store.

The best store of today is in Estonia ; ReyDormilon 19.289,-

And this is the season top 10 of "highest profit" on all stores :

1    Mlb
2    BlackHole
3    FaltososDeChigre
4    Quickstepbronx
5    ReyDormilon
6    WinterIsComing
7    Codex
8    Bergersfeldt
9    Frier_Accounting
10    Álvaro_Pino_Boys
- - - - -
14    SPORTLIFE
Aurora_Australis is outside the top 50.
I'm almost 100% sure that only profits count in this ranking, and that when a store is not profitable, the negative number does not count.
So, it is just a distorted, not good ranking. The reality of real netto profits can be different.

stage 2 Dauphiné ;

stage 3 Dauphiné ;
11º  Palley  on 0:28"
22º  Beckham ( free role )
Nice to see that my 22yo American scored points. And a nice stage result of Palley thanks to good help of Stubbe.
At the moment Palley is just 15º GC on 2:00", what is a bit dissapointing for now.
Perhaps that going for stage results would have been a better option in this Dauphiné. And the Swiss shop is still not profitable ( - 880 ).

stage 4 Dauphiné ;
6º (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/ch.png)  Stubbe ( teamcaptain ) on 0:00"
14º (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/ch.png)  Palley ( free role ) on 0:14"
Stubbe was 3rd favorite, and maybe I should have used a +1 form card, because now he finished as last of the front group ( with 99 form ).
But it was a good race of my Swiss trio ; helper (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/ch.png) Zutter did great in s1, was too slow in s2 and s3, but returned to the front in s4.
To my surprise GC contender Palley could also return to the front in s4, what caused this excellent free role result.

Palley moved up just 1 place and now 14º GC, still on 2:00"
His hills-GV is not so good, so the top 10 GC seems far out of reach.
Well, I paid just 2 million for Palley ; probably my GC expectation was too high, also because he lost too much time in flatcobble stage 2.
In retrospective ; I should have made the 22yo Beckham the teamcaptain in stage 3, due to a little chance of winning the white jersey.

Title: Re: Season 18
Post by: Vos on August 02, 2021, 09:56:18 AM
The Swiss store was profitable after stage 4 ( + 321,- ), but after stage 5 it is making a loss again ( - 860,- ).

stage 5 Dauphiné ;
11º  Stubbe ( teamcaptain )
- - - - -
35º  Palley ( free role ) on 1:10"
Excellent result of hillsclimber Stubbe. And for the GC of Palley it was not a good strategic decision to let him ride in a free role.
Palley ended up as 12º GC, and without his 2x free roles, he could have finished top 10 GC.

4 tour cyclists are selected, and Valotti is the GC contender.
He was 79k more expensive than Palley, but maybe also now my expectation should be not high for a cheap cyclist of 2,1 M.

stage 2 Suisse ;
My 3 tour cyclists finished outside the points in a big group on 1:02" Not bad and expected.

stage 3 Suisse, the time trial ;
22º  Valotti  on 1:15"
26º  Palley  on 1:17"
38º  Baiao  on 1:30"

stage 4 Suisse ;
33º  Valotti ( teamcaptain ) on 0:08"
116º  Palley ( free role ) on 1:01"
117º  Baiao ( free role ) on 1:01"
Ups, a tactical mistake with the free role tactics ; both dropped in s3 out of the front group what caused these bad results.
It also caused a very big drop in the GC ; Baiao was 15ºGC and now 27ºGC ; Palley was 11ºGC and now 21ºGC.
It seems they have no chance anymore to score a few extra GC points.

But Valotti did amazing thanks to masterhelper Rubiera who stayed with his teamcaptain the whole race, even in s5.
Valotti was 6ºGC and moved up to GC, still 0:28" behind the GC leader, that did not change.
The final mountain stage will be decisive, and my Italian teamcaptain is just a 7 star climber, so, hopefully not a too big drop in the GC.

stage 5 Suisse ;
25º  Valotti  on 1:08"
30º  Palley ( free role ) on 1:22"
A good stage, and even better ;
Valotti could hold on to his GC place, what is an excellent final result and much better than I expected.
Still, on just 0:04" of the final GC podium is a bit of a pitty.
To my surprise free role rider Palley moved up 6 places and finished as 15º GC. Nice extra points.

Not a strong selection, but maybe Valotti surpises again like he did in the Tour de Suisse ( 4º ).
Although I expect that top 10 GC is already a difficult goal to achieve.

Palley is the main helper, but the 2nd half TdF will be hard for him due to that his TC bonus ends, ánd due to a drop to 94 form.
The remaining 3 places in this TdF selection are last-minute-selections of young cyclists who can use the experience desperately :

Zutter can be a good extra helper in many stages.
Beckham can be a masterhelper in the mountains, but maybe he gets a free role.
Meijer is almost of no use as helper, he is lucky there were open spots in this TdF.
My Vuelta selection is already full and will be much stronger. But first ; let's see how Valotti does in the GC of this Tour de France.

71 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/italia.jpg) Valotti ( 31 ), tour
72 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/suiza.jpg) Palley ( 32 ), tour

stage 1 TdF ;
12º  Valotti  on 0:36"
28º  Zutter ( helper )
30º  Palley ( helper )
Valotti had still help on the Mont Ventoux, but was isolated in s4 and s5. Despite this, a very good result.

stage 2 TdF ;
19º  Beckham ( free role )
- - - - -
45º  Valotti  on 2:44"
Bad helper tactics ; almost the whole race Valotti was isolated. Probably this caused an unnecessary loss of 0:26" or even 0:54"

At the moment Valotti is 15ºGC on 2:32" ( the nr 19ºGC is also on 2:32" ).
Title: Re: Season 18

stage 3 TdF ;
10º  Beckham ( 22yo teamcaptain )  8)
A change of strategy because my young American did great in mountain stage 2 to Loudenvielle, where GC teamcaptain Valotti dissapointed.
So, in this mountain stage 3 to Pla-d'Adet Beckham got his chance in a leader role :

s1 = excellent job of my 2 Swiss helpers ; they kept Beckham in the front group of just 31.

s2 = helper Palley did great with Beckham in his wheel ; both in the chasing group of just 7, 0:11" behind the 4x Euroscalt breakaway.

s3 = unfortunately Palley dropped out of the chasing group ; unnecessary, because he could have gone faster.
Although, I did not expect Beckham would be this good in s3, where he was still in the reduced chasing group on 0:15"
Situation s3 --> 2x Euroscalt 0:00" --> 1x Euroscalt(helper) 0:07" --> chasing group of just 5, incl. 1x Euroscalt and 2x too fast helpers.

s4 = Beckham is a bit too young to keep up with the fierce high pace so far, what costed him much energy ; he dropped behind.
Situation s4 --> 4x 0:00" --> 1x --> 4x --> 4x --> 9x on 0:57" incl. Beckham.

s5, Pla-d'Adet = a great final climb ! Beckham ( 10º ) won even the up-mountain-sprint of his little group of 4 on 1:40"
Solo victory of Lebraud ( TeamEuroscalt = again superb climb domination ) ; also solo nr2 did great, Alexander ( ChampsElysees ).

GC contender Valotti had a very bad free role race ; 53º on 3:24" ( finished together with Palley, what also shows this result is very bad ).
Caused by that his 1 EP start was not good enough, ánd his mechanical breakdown in s3.
Well, he is just a 7-star climber, so I knew this Tour de France would be difficult to him, and this very bad free role race does not help.
Valotti dropped 13 places and now 28ºGC on 4:49", hopefully he returns in the GC battle after a good time trial in Luxembourg this evening.

stage 4 TdF, time trial FFC^HF 65km,
25º  Valotti  on 1:33"
26º  Palley
Valotti moved up to 14ºGC on 4:10"
but with 29 sprint skill and 4 out of the remaining 6 stages with a sprint finish ; it will be a hard TdF to my Sardinian teamcaptain.

stage 5 TdF, hills-sprint ;
53º  Valotti  on 1:48"
He finished in the 3rd group, and ( maybe ) with perfect tactics it was possible to finish in the 2nd group on 0:51", a big time difference.
Valotti dropped to 16ºGC on 5:58"
Title: Re: Season 18

stage 6 TdF, FMMFF, 2x wind ;
34º  Valotti  on 1:07"
Bad stage.
The risky 1 EP start was not good enough, and he was already isolated in s2.
Main "helper" Palley started good, what appeared to be too fast for his teamcaptain. Palley was also ahead in s2 and behind in s3 + s4.
To my surprise Palley ( without TC, just 94 form, behind in s3, behind in s4 with 0 EP ) returned with 0 EP in s5 to the group of Valotti.
What maybe shows that Valotti could finish one group sooner if his race was tactical much better = a big difference of 31seconds.

stage 7 TdF, FFFFM, 1x wind ;
17º  Valotti  on 0:35"
Very good race + result, thanks to an excellent helpers job of Palley.

Valotti is now 16ºGC on 7:35"
For a GC contender he is good at stage 9, the time trial. But not good in stage 10, the flat-cobble-sprint stage.
I estimate he will end up on about the GC position he has now.
Hopefully he can score some points in stage 8 too, what makes his not so good Tour de France a bit more bearable.

stage 8 TdF, MMMHF 2x wind ;
26º  Valotti  on 0:42"
A good race ; a few points, he finished in the big 2nd group ( nrs 12 to 45 ), and still 16ºGC.

stage 9 TdF, flat TT ;
29º  Valotti  on 1:59"

stage 10 TdF, FCCCF ;

Valotti moved up to 12ºGC after the time trial, and to my surprise he did not drop after stage 10.

19º  Vorre ( helper )
Nice extra points to the current leader of the individual Swiss ranking.

Very low expectations, due to a director with 7 on little tours, and a teamcaptain ( Armstrong ) that was bought for 1.400,- this season.
Extreme low numbers. Even the semi-helper ( Stabulnieks, bronze climbhills-sprinter ) I bought today was more expensive with 3.010,-
Mainly bought to fill up this selection because there were open spaces.
The same for Valotti, who was not sold today, he rides this BBT too in an attempt to be a semi-helper, although his main goal is to gain xp.

Perhaps the most chance to score a few points comes from my both hills specialists in stage 5.
But it is uncertain yet if one or both will ride that race in good health. Probably not, because also their main goal is to gain xp.
And it seems that missing out a few stage 5 points has no impact on this season whatsoever.

Also a chance that silver cobblehills cyclist Armstrong is good enough to score a few points in stages 1 and 2.
And maybe he surprises me by finishing top 20 GC, despite he has just 2 stars on sprint and a TT skill of 46.
But of course, there is also a possibility that Armstrong will be disqualified / suspended for doping use. :))

71 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/inglaterra.jpg) Armstrong ( 33 )
72 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/spain.jpg) Rubiera ( 26 )

Before the nice points in SanSebastian, my team had even a better highlight at 1 am ;
(https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/montanaoro.jpg) (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/hu.png) Barna Szõnyi ( 22 ) got his golden icon on pure climb.  8)
He is the current nr 3 in the u23 DT and since I bought him almost 4 months ago, he determines the training schedule of my team.

Ok, I did not know that. Thanks for the information. :)
I noticed it at 1 am but a good chance I missed looking at it earlier, and he had his golden icon already yesterday, at 7 am after race 71.
By far not the record, as I can see in the topic you created :

stage 1 BBT ;
24º   Armstrong
stage 2 BBT ;
13º   Armstrong
A very good stage 1, and stage 2 was excellent due to profiting of the wind ; Armstrong and 3 helpers were in the s1 breakaway of just 36.

But sprint stage 3 was tactical bad, because of a too early drop in s2. Armstrong finished as 83º on 1:41" and dropped to 18ºGC.
His result in the time trial, 34º on 2:34", caused a to me surprising jump of 8 places, and Armstrong is now 10ºGC.
I decided that training was more important to my 2 hills specialists, so a good opportunity for them to be unhealthy helpers to Armstrong.
A gap of 1:18" to the nr20 GC, so, it should be (easily) duable for Armstrong to score GC points after stage 5, despite his not good hills GV.

stage 5 BBT ;
46º  Armstrong  on 0:58"
An excellent result thanks to Meijer ( with 70 health ) who did a great helpers job and got 5x hand symbols.
This even caused that Armstrong could hold on to 10ºGC, an amazing final result.  8)

Thanks Daan  :)
And you too a nice job, because I see that your 22yo hills specialist Jacquet has overtaken the Australian toptalent James Bush.
I know Jacquet is amazing too, but I did not expect that he is now the nr 1 in the u23 DT.  8)

7th      Richard Levin      36   Aurora_Australis   0: 25"   67 points

My Dutch Vuelta teamcaptain makes his debut for my team.
His cobbleskill is too low to be a top GC contender in this Vuelta, but I assume he can battle for GC points despite the fierce competition.
Klaassen has to try hard, because if he fails, Kummer gets the leader role in the 2 pure mountain stages. A good practice for Colombia.

71 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/holanda.jpg) Klaassen ( 31 ), golden tour
72 (https://www.cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/dinamarca.jpg) Vorre ( 30 ), silver tour

stage 1 Vuelta ;
8º  Vorre ( helper )  on 0:32"
12º  Klaassen  on  0:49"
Masterhelper Vorre was doing a great job in s1, s2 and s3, but unfortunately in s4 Klaassen could not hold the wheel of Vorre.
Despite this, I'm very satisfied about this race ;
Klaassen did much better as I expected, and the 8º place of not-favorite Vorre in a helpers role is excellent too.
Title: Re: Season 18

stage 2 Vuelta ;
82º  Klaassen  on 2:48"
Unexpected big time loss.
But maybe more GC rivals had difficulties / the wrong tactic, because to me it is clear that this stage 2 had a bug :

Title: Re: Season 18
Post by: Vos on August 14, 2021, 08:14:28 AM
stage 3 Vuelta ;
28º  Klaassen  on 0:36"
Vorre did a good helpers job in the first 3 sections, and in s4 Klaassen was in the 2nd group of nrs 7 to 37, on just 0:08", this looked good.
Unfortunately Klaassen could not finish in the s5 front group, but finished as 8th of the 2nd group of nrs 21 to 55, on 0:36"
Although it is doubtfull if he could finish on 0:00" in a much riskier tactic.

And after the unexpected big time loss of bug-stage-2, maybe it even does not matter / or does not matter much.
Because Klaassen is the current 14ºGC, on 3:20" behind his fellow country man van der Goor ( Zattara ).
My teamcaptain has no ambition to win the Vuelta, simply not good enough, but a top result seems not possible anymore.
For example the nr 5ºGC is already 2:27"(!) ahead of Klaassen.
Well, let's focus on the top 10 GC, just 0:22" behind at the moment, that could be duable.
Title: Re: Season 18

stage 4 Vuelta ;
2º  Klaassen
24º  Kummer ( helper )
wow ! almost a victory of not-favorite Klaassen ( he could challenge just the 5th favorite ).

stage 5 Vuelta ;
49º  Klaassen  on 1:51"
Excellent race thanks to masterhelper Vorre who was with his teamcaptain in all sections, even in s5.
Klaassen moved up to 10ºGC after stage 4, and he cold hold on to this with his very good stage 5 result.

stage 6 Vuelta ;
TeamEuroscalt :o = 1º, 2º, 3º, 4º, 8º = formidabile, ottimo e buon lavoro, agtxla !  8)
7º  Kummer ( free role )
9º  Macannazi ( supermasterhelper )
15º  Klaassen ( teamcaptain ) on 2:28"
25º  Vorre ( masterhelper )
Excellent race and excellent results.  :)
Kummer could not challenge any favorites, so 7º in a free role is very good.
And Klaassen did amazing thanks to his helpers, who both were in s4 with their teamcaptain.
Title: Re: Season 18
Post by: Vos on August 17, 2021, 12:39:12 AM
stage 8 Vuelta, flat TT ;
7º  Quinziatto
65º  Klaassen  on 3:28"
The best result of Quinziatto in his career, and even with 99 form because I forgot to use a +1 form card.

stage 8 Vuelta, FFFFF ;
55º  Klaassen  on 0:27"
As expected he finished in the big 2nd group of nrs 32 to 80.
Because he had not a good helper, although Quinziatto ( sprintskill = 9) did a good helpersjob in s1, s2, s3 and dropped as expected in s4.
Maybe finishing on 0:00" was possible if Klaassen had a masterhelper and a risky leader tactic.

Klaassen is still 10ºGC on 3:27" with a gap of 0:48" and 1:05" towards the nrs 9 and 8.
Looking behind Klaassen ; only the nr 11 is close on 0:02" and the others seem too far away ; nr12 on 1:05", nr13 on 1:38"
Title: Re: Season 18

stage 9 Vuelta MDMDM ;
2º  Macannazi ( free role )  8)
3º  Kummer ( free role )  8)
19º  Klaassen  on 2:23"
WOW, 2x free roles on the podium ! Magnificent results, because both could not challenge the 5x TeamEuroscalt favorites.
Teamcaptain Klaassen did well, but he could have done better because helper Vorre made a tactical mistake in downhill s4 and dropped.
For the GC it maybe does not matter much ; Klaassen is still 10ºGC, now with a ½ minute gap towards nrs 9 ánd 11.

DUITAMA - 19.08.2021 - CFF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

(https://cyclingforfun.org/cff/etapas/duitama.jpg)

"Eccoci alla gara più attesa della stagione, ad un mondiale che presenta un percorso davvero impegnativo, sarà sicuramente una gara emozionante, con cosi tante salite sarà davvero difficile vedere una volata per la vittoria.
Siamo a 3000m, ad un passo dal cielo ed è prevista una giornata nuvolosa e con un insidioso venticello che potrebbe rimescolare parecchio i favoriti della gara che dovranno stare molto attenti a possibili outsider "

FAVORITI:

(https://cyclingforfun.org/cff/iconoscff/escalador3.jpg) ARFINN MIKALSEN, TeamEuroscalt

(https://cyclingforfun.org/cff/iconoscff/escalador2.jpg) MAXIM KUMMER, SPORTLIFE

(https://cyclingforfun.org/cff/iconoscff/escalador1.jpg) AIGARS FERTOVS / GEFFREY ALEXANDER, ChampsElysees
Tra i due non c'è molta intesa e questo si risente sulle salite, ma forse per un appuntamento così importante c'è qualcosa che spinge il gioco di squadra, c'è da capire se i due hanno già avuto il picco di forma perché hanno corso davvero tanto.

(https://cyclingforfun.org/cff/iconoscff/monteoro.png) JEREMY HUARD, Turrones

(https://cyclingforfun.org/cff/iconoscff/monteplata.png) FRANCO CARUSO, Innioraths
La squadra che rappresenta l'Italia ha deciso di puntare tutto su questa gara: le gambe non sono tra le migliori ma sono un bel blocco organizzato e molto motivato.

(https://cyclingforfun.org/cff/iconoscff/montebronce.png) PATROCINIO SALA, OphiukoCT
Un nome sicuramente da prendere in considerazione perché il manager che questa stagione ha vinto il Giro d'Italia ha quasi sempre un asso nella manica... o meglio "un Excel nella manica"

BUONA FORTUNA
E BUON DIVERTIMENTO A TUTTI !!!

19º  Klaassen ( free role )
Stubbe was the teamcaptain to secure his individual season goal ; the Swiss jersey. 8)
Now, after both WC races, it is clear that he did not even needed these points in Lombardia.

Salzburgo WC TT ;
11º  Quinziatto
A decent good result of my Sardinian TT specialist who had an active weather icon.

Congratulations to Caracoles, who made Ian Mikkelson the TT world champion.
Funny to see that the top 5 is entirely British ( 1º, 3º ) ánd Australian ( 2º, 4º, 5º ).
Less funny was that good old Richard Levin ( 36yo, Aurora Australis ) finished just outside the points due to mechanical breakdown.

WC mountain race in Colombia ;
4º  Kummer  --> solo on 0:21"
28º  Macannazi ( helper )
Not a good race, but still a very good result of Kummer who could not challenge any favorites.
On purpose this was not a good race, because I gambled big with the helper tactics in a desperate attempt to get him in s4 with Kummer.
But as I expected, Macannazi is a 3-sections helper and not good enough to be a 4-sections helper. I had to try ; no guts no glory. :)
This gamble / bad helpers tactic of Macannazi, caused that he already dropped in s3, one section sooner as he normally would.
So, Kummer had do it on his own in s3, s4 and s5, what is never good.
Despite this, still 4º, remarkable, I would have been happy with this result, even it was a good tactical race of my combo.
Because my combo is not high in the CFF golden climb icon ranking ; 218º Macannazi, and 64º Kummer ( 19 pure climbers are better ).

Congratulations to the only team that i.m.o. deserves to be the world champion in the mountains : TeamEuroscalt.  8)
Although it seems to me that agtxla did not had his nerves under control ; normally his mountain tactics are more than excellent,
but this WC race is probably one of the worst races I have seen of TeamEuroscalt ( and therefore more exciting for the rivals  :) ) :

Top favorite Arnfinn Mikalsen ( TeamEuroscalt ) was behind ánd isolated in s1, s2 and s3, because his best helper Stenseth was too fast.
Luckily for Mikalsen his back-up helper Tønnesen came to the resque in s4,
what caused the big jump in s5 to victory despite Mikalsen was in the 3rd group of s4 and 0:38" behind.
Not a perfect race of Mikalsen, but it is clear that he is thé best in the mountains and the well deserved world champion. 8)

Also worth to mention because they did great ;
Huard ( Turrones ) almost won and finished on 0:00", and Caruso ( Innioraths ) completed the podium by finishing solo on 0:10"

Final top 10 WC roadrace Colombia :

1º   Arnfinn Mikalsen   28   TeamEuroscalt   0: 00"

My helper's tactic failed and yet succeeded as well. +1 in EP for Balenko made him ride too fast for Stegmaier ( :o ), while they could challenge the exact same riders. With back-up help from lower healt riders Ruup, VdG and Austa Stegmaier managed to return to Balenko in s3 so he could get the crucial help in s4. In that section +2 EP was not good enough for Balenko to stay with Stegmaier in s4 ( :o again), but in the end finishing 8th is more than satisfying for Stegmaier.

The 2 race victories were of :
Hugo Stubbe ( 32, SUI ) = 1º stage 3 - Paris Nice ( in a CFF record )
Ulf Beck ( 31, GER, sold after Itzulia ) = 1º stage 4 - Catalunya

Both cyclists also had the best GC results of my team this season :
GC Catalunya = Ulf Beck
2º GC Paris Nice = Hugo Stubbe

In the big tours there was twice a GC top 10 result ; the best was 7º GC Giro of Adao Baiao ( 32, POR, sold after Suisse ).
