I've often thought that they should have a running version of cyclocross (Most often when I'm using the local kids BMX track as part of my exercise when jogging).

"Hartlooper" is misspelled, although it is probably ancient Dutch, and pronounced the same as "hardloper" what means "running person".
That is why he has an applicable picture of a running cyclist on his profile. :)

Dwars door Vlaanderen ( storm ) ;
11º  Taglioni
As only one he tried to anticipate on a s4 solo attack of Vetsch( who won this DDV ), what caused a chase of being solo as 2nd on 0:03"
But this s4 move of Taglioni was a bit too opportunistic, because 7 rivals passed him easily in s5, and he lost the sprint to the nrs 9º & 10º.
Still, a decent good result in this stormy DDV.

Yes, a good result.   :)

I can't say the same for my guy, OG Rose, who enjoyed good success in the first three CH monuments (9th OHN, 4th SB, and 5th E3H), but now lacking the TC bonus for , and having a director who is lacking in team spirit score, he was dropped in the S1 flat section along with his helpers.  :(

The drop also might have been a result of the and and/or the 83 who made the first bunch just being stronger (with TC bonus) or using an additional EP.

In any case, the result:

Dwars door Vlaanderen;
27º  Rose  0:41"

I am :) that he scored for our team   because 26 of the 50 teams in 1A did not.

Congrats to QuintoYtapa (535 pts scored) and CobbleCrushers (525), who both crushed it.

We hope to be better prepared for De Ronde van Vlaanderen.

Ronde van Vlaanderen ;
29º  Taglioni
A dissapointing race that was already over right after start ; my whole team could not follow the s1 front peleton of 83.
The 1 EP start of Taglioni was clearly not enough, and another indication that he was less good as I thought =
he did not even got a dissapointing icon in s1 despite his crucial bad start.

Ronde van Vlaanderen ;
27º  Rose
Like for Vos and Sportlife, this was a dissapointing race because I needed to ride Rose more aggressively in S2, S3, and S4. The good news was that Rose (and one helper) were not dropped in S1.   However, Rose and that helper were dropped in S2, so one more EP for both was needed there.  The leave-little-in-the-tank-for-S5 strategy probably would have netted Rose a better result.

   selection Lanihuli Cycling

151 Ektov ( 31 ), ( )
152 Semon ( 32 ), ( )
153 Tajan ( 25 ), ( )
154 Goedkoop ( 28 ), ( )
155 Lyka ( 30 ), ( )

Ektov and Goedkoop, the two tour guys, are not in top form (and I ran out of the form-booster cards), so we will see how they hold up riding at 100/98 x 5.  I imagine that race 3 (HHHHH) will be contested by a ton of in-form, top-drawer hillers who have just completed training camps in preparation for AG, FW, & LBL.   I have such a one in Semon, and I am still pondering how I will use him in R3.   I suppose the results of the first two races (FHFHF TT & MFMFF), in particular for Ektov, who I have designated as captain, will help me determine how I race the hills stage and the last two.

Itzulia, stage 1 FHFHF TT () ;

11º  Ektov ( captain-to-be )  1:12"
25º  Goedkoop ( helper-to-be )  1:28"

Off to go play World Challenge and hope I can win a couple of form-booster cards.   :D

Let's put my forum post of earlier today in the right season topic.
   selection SPORTLIFE

After I had a meeting with Vinokoerov, he arranged that Yakovlev is riding under the flag of Kazakhstan.
Although Yakovlev is a silver tour cyclist, he is not suited for a GC in this Itzulia due to his skills ; TT = 6( ! ) and cobble = 24.
Despite this, he gets the backnumber that ends on 1, because he is the teamcaptain in stages 2 and 4.

In stage 3 Meijer will be the leader, and stage 5 is for Taglioni.
Meijer is lucky that he has a helper, because Lamas has to use this little tour to get in top form for the hills classics ( also as helper ).
Taglioni has to do it without support, because Conti is selected to try to help Yakovlev a bit.

161 Yakovlev ( 32 ), silver "tour"
162 Meijer ( 30 ), hills
163 Taglioni ( 30 ), cobblehills
164 Conti ( 30 ), "tour"
165 Lamas ( 31 ), silver hills

Good luck everyone ! :)
Itzulia stage 1, hills TT ;
nothing at stake, SPORTLIFE enjoyed the Basque scenery. :)

Itzulia, stage 2 MFMhFF () ;

12º  Ektov ( captain )  0:00"
35º  Goedkoop ( helper )  0:31"

I was going to assign Ektov one less EP in S1 and one more in S5, but I was afraid of him getting dropped and not being able to come back in S2.   A review of the section times told me my fear was likely unwarranted and that coming in @ :15" with his helpers in S1 would have been okay.  He eventually finished in the 25-rider lead group and emerged as the GC leader after this one.  :)  He will likely lose time, hopefully not too much, to some of the other GC guys after the HHHHH race.   We also hope his 100/98 h/f will not come back to bite him.    Goedkoop, also not in top form, is 19th GC @ 0:46"   Both might be buoyed by the skills of our team director, who has good scores for motivation (94) and other tours (89).

Itzulia, stage 2, MFM^FF ;
2º  Yakovlev
Good result of the 5th favorite, thanks to an excellent helper's job of Conti who was with his teamcaptain in s4.
Of course, so close to a victory is not satisfying.

Opposite feelings here, not happy with the tactics, because Kok was isolated in S4, but happy that he won on his own  8)

Congrats with the victory of Ben Kok. :)

About Yakovlev, 2nd is not satisfying, but happy with his result and to me surprising that he was the 5th favorite, for example flat/tw = 67/41.
He is a Eschborn-Frankfurt specialist, and there he can use his strenght more = hills.

Yes, to me it looks like hills play a larger role in this stage than would be logical looking at the profile. I would not even be surprised if S3 was a hill section instead of a mountain section, looking at how far my domestique (who has very low hills) was behind after s3.

General info(= my point of view), so it is not really a reaction to Rico, because he is very experienced and knows the info below :

section 3 in the picture = a combi-section of climb ánd hills.
Always the case when you see such a brown climb section with a 3"category or 4"category in it. Because :
4" and 3" = hills
2" and 1" and E" = mountains.

What counts in every section = race GV + "underground".
( the race GV is of more influence in a section, how much more than "underground" is unknown )

Hills gets a very low percentage in the race GV, but for sure counts in s3 due to the 3"category hill,
although in s3 "underground"hills counts a little less than "underground" climb, because a climb is "heavier" than a hill.

The ranking of "heavy" and "light" sections =

1. climb
2. hills & cobblehills
3. flat-cobble
- - - - - - - - - - - ( a dot line to show that the 3 above are much heavier than the 2 below )
4. flat
5. downhill

The heavier a section is, the more effective the used energy is. What is also the case in real cycling.

For example ;
Dumoulin makes a training ride and the track is one section upmountain and one section downhill.
He has a total of 4 EP for both sections.
The first time he decides to use 1 EP in s1 (= mountain ) and 3 EP in s2 (= downhill ), and he finishes after 55 minutes.
The next day the same training ride, now 4 EP in 1 and 0 EP in s2, and he finishes already after 30 minutes.
25 minutes faster with the same total amount of energy used.
This has everything to do with that using energy in the mountains is much more effective than using energy in downhill.
In other words ; a climb section is the "most heavy" section, and a downhill section is the "lightest" section.

Therefore such a combi climb+hills section 3 as in the race picture of Itzulia stage 2, is a tiny little "lighter" than a real mountain section.
Upmountain sections are the heaviest, because there is no downhill in it.
( of course, downhill can count in a upmountain section, if it is in the race GV, because per section it is always = race GV + underground )
And the category is often also of influence in how "heavy" a section is. ( sometimes not, I guess the software maker was lazy then )
An E" category is more heavy than a 2" category mountain, and therefore using energy is more effective on a E"category mountain,
although it depends on where the mountains are in a track, and also it depends on if a mountain section has downhill in it or not.

There are more of such combi-sections(climb+hills) this season ;
s3 of stage 4, Tour de Suisse
s2 of stage 4, Tour de France
s2 of stage 8, Tour de France

For example s2 of stage 4 TdF, there the 4" hill is of almost no influence,
because in the underground climb counts more + in the race GV climb counts a lot.
A climb teamcaptain without a hill skill does not have to adjust the tactics in s2, the 4"hill is no worry, his "section-GV" is good enough.
However, to climbers with no hill skill and who are riding in a helper's role, s2 might be tricky due to the 4"hill in it.

And there are more combi sections in this game, for example all flat sections with a "hidden" hill in it.
And also not "hidden" hills in a flat section, such as s5 of MilanoSanremo ; those two 4"cat.hills are the Cipressa and the Poggio.
For sure hills&dh count too in the underground of s5 in MSR, the hill-skill even a lot. On top of that, hills is in the race GV as well.

For this race, I used the **** provided pre-race to calculate the possible GV and came up with these #s:

ST 14  Sp 21  CL 25  FL 14  TQDHHLAGTW

I'd be interested in opinions from others re: the above #s.  For instance, now in retrospect, I think the value for hills should be lower, probably 5.

Itzulia, stage 3 hills ( 1x wind ) ;
10º  Meijer
A very bad tactical race ; a drop in s2, already isolated in s3, and Meijer got 3x the sleeping icon in this race.
The manager is to blame, because he tried a tactical very risky s2, and in s3 he gambled on the active weather icon of the helper.
Both tactical choices were bad.
