A very impressive van Aert wins sprint stage 5.
The new GC leader is A.Yates, because Alaphilippe received a 20sec. time penalty for taking a drink bottle within the final 20km (at 17km).
To me this seems like a too harsh punishment.
In my opinion ; a better penalty is that he has to sing a stupid song on the podium, in this way he does not break this rule the next time.
And who invented this rule (and distance) anyway and why ?

Peters wins solo the first real mountain stage and proved to be the strongest of the break away group of 13.
About the GC contenders ; Pogačar won some time back after his tactical failure of yesterday.
And some GC riders were not good, for example Pinot who lost many minutes, his GC is definitely over.

Ewan wins the hectic, exciting and very close sprint, see photo finish.
Sagan finished as 2nd, but he was disqualified for dangerous sprinting. Because a consicious saboteur or a complete idiot of the public put a stick across the race track. The TdF organisation should disqualify itself too, for making this possible and/or for not maintaining corona-meassures at the extreme crowded finish line. But this is just my maybe controversial opinion ; logical Sagan is disqualified, but not logical this situation could happen.

Given that they don't make money off the spectators, and that CoVid19 threatens to have teams or even the race disqualified, why have spectators in close quarters at the finish anyway?

Good question and this question is what I mean ; this situation should not happen.

Lack of spectators would make the sprints more dangerous because any slight touch against the fences and they get flying and cause a crash like in Pologne

This is not correct. Normally the fences are connected to eachother to prevent your discribeted situation from happening.
It is the purpose and the design of the fences.
In Poland the fences were not connected, what is a stupid, big mistake and a very dangerous situation.
They are even considering a lawsuit against the organisation of the Tour de Pologne, because of these loose fences.
I'm not sure who "they" are, I did not look into this, but I saw something about this on the Dutch tv.
