Agreed, but I still hope it is going to be some kind of battle between the GC contenders.
Especially because Vollering and her team are extra motivated after yesterday,
also because they did not believe the explanation of van Vleuten that the attack was already planned due to expected cross winds.
At least, that was what ( the always emotional ) Vollering more or less said in an interview after the race.
I guess today there will be a lot of envy and grudge in the peleton and I expect that they will made it hard for van Vleuten.
But then again, a hard race with early attacks is normally in favor of van Vleuten, who likes very hard high-pace races.
And the gap of 1:11" is huge / normally way too much.
But you never know in cycling, if van Vleuten has a bad day, she can lose minutes in the brutal final climb. Although I do not expect this.
And yes, perhaps Evenepoel can wear the pink jersey in all stages, what did not happen since Gianni Bugno in 1990.
But I saw also an interview of Evenepoel right after the race, were he sort of mentioned the plan to lose the jersey after some stages.
And that plan was made
before the time trial, so, he certainly is confident, fully prepared, and feeling top.
Of course, he did better in the time trial as he planned, or maybe better said, the rivals did less good as he planned.
And now with the relative big time gap, there is for sure a possibility that he can wear the pink jersey in all stages.
But it is a big tour and it is just started, so anything can still happen ( hopefully no abandon ), and especially the last week is very hard.
Although, looking at Remco's great performances in for example LBL and this stage 1 time trial,
it very well could be a "boring" Giro with one much better than the rest and therefore no GC battle for the victory.
And an attacking Evenepoel is not needed now, due to his big lead after stage 1,
so, unfortunately, I do not expect such a great, exciting battle between Roglic and Evenepoel such as in Catalunya.
Well, in case we get a "boring" Giro, we always have the CFF League to make this Giro more exciting to us.
