With 1½ km to go there was a hard crash, what took out some potential stage winners, for example Kool and Consonni.
I'm not sure, but it seems there were no consequences and all involved in the crash, can start today.
A very downsized first group sprinted for victory on the slightly uphill finish ; Dygert won. Kool still GC leader due to the 3 km rule.

  Laporte wins the rainy stage 1 in a thrilling final ; solo-escaped Herregodts came 30 meters short.

Really exciting final. Herregodts had a time gap of just 5 seconds before the downhill and he managed to increase that and come alone to the finish line by risking all down the hill. He deserved the win!
