Bad news at Tour de Suisse. Apparently Sheffield and Mader crashed badly during the last descent and the swiss is in critical condition. Let's hope he recovers!

[Vos]

Unfortunately I had no time to watch cycling ( only saw final 5 km of Belgium Tour ), so I missed this news, thanks for noticing it, ophiuko.

As I understand it ;
It was a high speed descent, almost 100 kmph( ! ), and then there was the relevant, infamous turn. 
Sheffield had too much speed to make that turn and he fell 20 meters down in the ravine.
A short moment later, the same happened to Mäder, who lay unconscious half in the water, and had to be resuscitated on the spot.



Hopefully Mäder will be fine, but the picture of the ravine looks grim with those rocks and the big drop on high speed.
I have no news about his condition, but I assume it is not good after such a horrible crash.

Mäder was picked by everyone, and Sheffield was 3x picked.
Other TdS "news" that I just found out ; Jay Vine ( 6x picked ) did not finish in previous stage 4, due to a crash.

Also I just read this cycling news ;
24 riders disqualified from u23 Giro d'Italia, for holding on to vehicles on the Stelvio.

I watched the Tour de Suisse stage and they never said anything about Mader and Sheffield, nor showed the crash. The commentators didn't know about it. I saw the descent and there weren't many turns but near the end there was an U turn right after a very long straight road, so I guess it happened there. Still no news about Mader which is not good.

I read about the DSQ riders yesterday, here is a picture of some of them that got caught:

Gino Mäder ( 26yo ) died in the hospital today.  RIP

The tragedy of Mäder's death , happened a little bit differently than how I initially understood it with very limited information at that time.
This is where he crashed ( first 2 pictures ).
And of course, yesterday stage 6 was cancelled, instead a short tribute-to-Gino-Mäder-parade ( the 3rd picture ).

Normally I post smiley's and cool-faces after the name of the CFF winner. But that doesn't seem appropriate to me now.

  3 Italians in the break away, incl. 2 team mates from whom Romele ( 19, ITA ) won stage 6.

  Schelling wins stage 3 of a very little group,
because with just 800 meters to go there was a roundabount, and most of the sprinting peleton went the wrong way.

  Peña wins the only mountain stage in this little tour.
It looked like that his team mate Zana would win this stage ánd the GC, but he crashed in the final descent. Luckily without injuries.
Zana still new GC leader by finishing in the first group with Ulissi and Fortunato, but both are very close in the GC, on 0:01" and 0:06"

CFF League stage 4 winner = ValeronIdolo
Animatoca is the new GC leader with 1 more stage to go.

  Evenepoel soloed to victory and honours Gino Mäder on the finish line.
Some teams decided to leave this tour and did not start in this stage 7 ; Bahrein( = logical ), Tudor and Wanty.
This stage 7 was modified ; the time differences with 25km to go counted, and the peleton decided not to race before the final 25km.

Vos is still the GC leader with 1 more stage to go, a time trial of 35,7 km.
I notice that there are no penalty points anymore in the CFF League of this TdS. Probably on purpose, and in my opinion understandable.
