Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers) seized control on a cold and rainy stage 6 of the Vuelta a España, attacking to gain 43 seconds on overnight leader Primoz Roglic and take the leader's red jersey.

Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) showed the first signs of weakness in the Vuelta a España on the final climb of the Formigal, slipping out of the overall lead after attacks from Carapaz and Hugh Carthy (EF Pro Cycling).

In the picture ; Further ahead, Ion Izagirre (Astana) won the stage from the breakaway, making his move on the final climb after an earlier attack by his brother and teammate Gorka.

Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) claimed his second victory of the 2020 Vuelta a España on Wednesday, triumphing on the Alto de Moncalvillo on stage 8 to move back up to second overall.

The Slovenian was unable to recover the red jersey he lost at Formigal due to a clothing mistake, but surged decisively away from his rivals in the final kilometre of the Vuelta’s newest steep summit finish.

Race leader Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers), himself an attacking force towards the top of the 8.3km climb, was unable to respond when Roglič countered one of his accelerations with 750m to go.

The Ecuadorian placed second on the stage, 13 seconds down, with Dan Martin (Israel Start-Up Nation) third at 19 seconds.

The GC after 8 stages :

1        Carapaz, Richard        Ineos Grenadiers    32h 31' 06''
2        Roglič, Primož        Team Jumbo - Visma    + 00' 13''
3        Martin, Dan        Israel Start-Up Nation    + 00' 28''

10        Poels, Wout        Bahrain - McLaren    + 03' 47''

Also the Vuelta Challenge of women started. I think it was really late open to join, because yesterday I checked it and still closed.
And to me surprising that this tour was not cancelled. Anyway ; the CFF League has 3 contenders who were very attentive.
Or just lucky that they saw this race was opened at the very last moment, because WCS has almost no participants in this tour.
Kalarratas, pizzaboys and Animatoca have the honor to battle out the last tour of this season. Good luck !  :)

Wiebes wins stage 1.

CFF League stage 1 winner = Kalarratas   8)

Brennauer wins stage 2, the time trial of 9.3km, and she is the new GC leader.
Today the final sprint stage in the streets of Madrid.

CFF League stage 2 winner = Kalarratas   8)

Gaudu was in the break away group and he wins stage 17.
A few minutes behind him there was an exciting GC battle for the Vuelta victory on the decisive final climb, the Alto De La Covatilla.
Including a fierce attack of Carapaz ( see picture ), who finished 21 seconds before Roglič. But that was not enough to win the Vuelta.
Title defender Roglič wins the Vuelta again. 2nd GC Carapaz and 3rd GC Carthy. Today the final sprint stage.
