Wiebes was by far the best sprinter in stage 1, and celebrated her pink jersey on the podium.
But......
about 2 hours later she was disqualified, because her bicycle was
0,02 kg too leight ( according to the Giro jury ).
Not only they took away the win, and for example put her on the last spot in the GC, no, Wiebes is disqualified from the whole Giro.
In my opinion an extreme harsh & ridiculous penalty ( despite it is justified by UCI rules ).A few hours after the race, Balsamo was declared as stage 1 winner. Today she starts in pink, without the by far best sprinter as rival.
Ferguson ( 2x picked ) is also out of this Giro. Her Giro was just 40 km long, where she crashed and had to abandon by ambulance.
